The Dan Wesson Guardian Commander in 45ACP is my pick….. or my own Dan Wesson Vigil Commander in 45ACP which is on my hip right now. Both of these DW 1911s are Fantastic to shoot!! For about $1,200 to $1,300 New. They hold their value and they are made of High Quality Build & Finish. Great Job on this Video Review Rider…. I Loved Watching it. Guys Please Give This Video a 👍, as that will help more people see it as Recommended on RU-vid. 🤠👍🇺🇸👮🏻‍♂️⭐️. B9USA Sr.

B9USA Sr., thank you very much for watching and commenting. I know you have become fond of your DW pistols (along with your new Cabot Gran Torino - WOW!, that a gun), and I agree that DW makes the finest "production" 1911s. In Part 15, I put the DW PM-C up against a Les Baer Stinger. Granted, the Stinger was pre-owned, but it was still a very nice gun. However, the Stinger is gone and the PM-C made it into my top 5.

Carrying for 30 years has given me definite personal preferences. Commander length slide/barrel and Officer frame. A “short” S&A mag funnel gives the benefit of a little longer grip for my big hands with a smoother mag insert. I’m a die hard 45 fan but for carry, I’m typically using a 9mm. Right now I’ve settled on a Staccato C (newer model). It doesn’t have the “true” 4.25” Commander top but it’s close. I also cannot find a funnel for it but it works. For the range, a Commander or Government all steel 45 shooting my 200 grain SWC target loads puts a smile on my face.

My only experience with the 1911 was when I was on the 4th Naval District Pistol Team, stationed out of the Naval Air Development Center. I was issued a standard 1911 that had been accurized by the San Diego Marksmanship Unit, with custom fittings, adjustable sights, etc. At the time (Vietnam era) we were required to compete in Navy and civilian matches with .45 acp ball issue ammo. That pistol had zero failures over three years of practice and competition, and I once won a case of beer for hitting a coke can at 100 yards (was young with an aviator's eyesight at the time). That pistol was the most reliable semiauto I have ever shot. My current FN SA/DA 9mm has not yet failed, but has nowhere near the total shots downrange that my Navy 1911 had. So I'd have to say if I were forced to choose a most dependable pistol in critical circumstances it would be the 1911 IF it were customized by the San Diego MU.

Thomas, thank you for your service, and thanks for watching and commenting. A Coke can at 100 yards is fantastic for a 1911, though a well-tuned one is certainly capable in the right hands.

The DW PointMan Carry looks cool, but not quite a real BBQ gun. The Heavy Armor Division Trump .45 comes the closest, but I have to be careful where I carry that one. Maybe the Ruger Naval Special Warefare commemorative?

@@RidersRange The Ruger is a nice pistol but for a BBQ gun I lean toward something like the Colt Custom Shop 38 Super El Jefe. Bright polished stainless steel with ivory grips, the kind of pistol you can take to a BBQ or downtown on Saturday night :-). Happy New Year!

Outstanding series on my personal favorite weapons system the 1911. Never owned the 9mm version. In that bore diameter I favor the .38 Super with 115 grain buffalo bore JHP, WHICH YIELDS OVER 530 FOOT POUNDS. This has the same capacity as the 9mm LUGER version but higher power. I also like the OTHER 9mm. The .357 SIG 1911 nightmare carry commander bobtail but all steel. More powerful yet but same capacity. So in .355 bore pistols I favor these.

Once--upon-a-time I was convinced that 1911 was more than a model ID, it was a mathematical command - 19+11 = 30, so one needs 30 1911 pistols. However, once I got beyond 30, I realized I was wrong and the equation was actually a multiplier, not simple addition. So, 19X30 = 570. Looks like I have a LONG way to go.

@@RidersRange The colt commander serial # 46296 LW is that provide a clue to date/material?
@RidersRange
@RidersRange 2 года назад
That gun was made in 1965, according to the Colt serial number lookup, but no other info other than it was a Commander. I can't find anything confirming that Colt actually produced a titanium frame, and if they did, it would be pretty expensive. Colt currently makes a "Competition Titanium", but that only refers to the Titanium Blue finish on the frame. Once-upon-a-time, Caspian made a cast titanium 1911 frame, but even those were expensive and wouldn't have been on an original factory Colt. The Colt LW (lightweight) Commander was produced on an aluminum frame (Colt called it Coltalloy) starting in 1950. They started out with the serial number xxxxx LW, but changed the numbering to CLWXXXXX in 1969 to differentiate the alloy frame Commander from the steel frame mode that came out that year. I hope that helps.

Obviously, I’m not an Obama fan I’m not trying to be an asshole, but consider: if you can’t afford a Mercedes Benz, you might buy a VW. Or I’d don’t want to boy buy a Cadillac, with you might buy a Toyota, or other foreign car. Your choice. Don’t knock the guy driving his Mercedes. Let him enjoy his car, while you enjoy your car.
