Thanks to all that took part in the restoration of the 1918 Liberty Truck In preparation of the TxDOT Centennial Celebration.
9500 Liberty Truck were built and 8000 were sent overseas in WW1. The Liberty Truck also had a part in the Spanish American War recovery efforts transporting supplies and goods. There are only 10 Liberty Trucks registered and operational today in the US.

Since 1928? She sure did her time. to the board! We wanna be doing full speed! 15 MPH! Hold on! Awesome service vehicle. Sure sounds good now. When you approached the gate, I thought you had a Rusty Glovebox sticker on the gate door. LOL! That's quite a steering wheel & almost straight down! That must've taken hours to prep for the paint! Awesome job on the restoration guys! She's a real jewel now. Just beautiful man! Great video Lloyd. Like that you added some of it's uses back in the day.

I found a website that had letters from a GI that he sent to folks at home about his experiences driving the Liberty Truck.. He was a boy from the farm and was amazed at what the truck could do. Thanks Pat

What a neat old truck. With the size of that engine and hand starting would be a challenge all on it's own. Nice resto work.

That is something. It's amazing to see any vehicle still able to be driven around one hundred years later. To bad they don't build things to last anymore. Thanks for sharing. Joe

Great video! That truck is older than I am! Wow! Amazing to see it running and moving under its own power. There's no reason in the world that anyone should go faster than 15 mph! Thanks Lloyd.

Great Video, ya'll did a great job on the truck. Saw it in 2011 at Camp Hubbard shop in Austin. Did not realize it was a running truck back then. Missed seeing it when it came to the Houston District on the tour as I had recently retired from TxDot and been pretty busy with the honeydews!

Very Nice Restoration on this 0l' Truck Lloyd. It turned out quite nice with the Army Green paint on it. Do you know when it can be seen in each of our own Counties around the state by any chance? I sure would like to go and see it. Oh by the way, I hope that wasn't "Starting Fluid" being used to start the engine in that can, in the video. That Will sure wash down the cylinder walls for sure with a Dry Start.
@RustyGlovebox
@RustyGlovebox 7 лет назад
I have the schedule when it will be in Tyler, I'll send it to you. No ether around this engine. It has fuel cocks on the top of each cylinder and you prime each one before you start it. Thanks
@DannyWalker1949
@DannyWalker1949 7 лет назад
I seen the fuel cocks on top of the cylinders and I was hoping it was gas going into the pistons. Do you know if the truck will be going to Crockett or Palestine? I live a lot closer to these 2 towns than Tyler. I'm in Houston County Tx.

I have my grandpa's 1 year pocket journal from 1918. In July 1918 he's been assigned a ??? QUAD. I'm ever so curious if THIS is what he is referring to. He was in France, Nexon, Limoge, etc. Apparently training on vehicles and inspecting and repairing them. Days after having acquired his 'quad' (some difficulty reading the journal, look like quad) he we sent out for supplies. I do hope you'll respond to this if you know of any real history of these rigs. THANX!

These trucks are very likely what he trained on and maintained. Great to hear about your Grandfather and Thanks for his Military service.
