I didn't think it was too long, at all!!also - you look absolutely spectacular in that rich, royal blue. I love that you use ragtime music in your refashion videos. I'm a massive fan of Scott Joplin, and loved playing his music on piano. I was blown away by how much of a difference that ric-rac trim made to finish the project and just give it a stunning vintage look. Bravo. I would've never thought of the ric-rac detail.

Evelyn……I am amazed at what you have done with this plain dress to a vintage 20’s creation!! My name is Sandy Strong and I’m 74 years old and my mother and grandmother taught me to sew when I was 14. I’ve been sewing a good part of fifty years, the last 10 years not so much. You’ve give me the sew jo as you call it. Almost got my sewing room and stash organized. Took my machine to be cleaned and checked out (great Baby Lock….it will do everything but take out the trash!!). I have joined your school, now I just need to figure out how to operate my I pad and be able to navigate your courses. I want to be able to adjust patterns and make my projects fit me. I love your tutorials…..you are so easy to understand. After all these years of sewing, I have learned so much. See you at school!!!!!

I love that dress! All of the little things you added to it really made it POP! I was all for those red buttons, too! Now if Covid-19 would just get out of the world, I could go hunting for thrifted dresses to refashion! Ladies like Phryne Fisher wore trousers, too, so maybe a cute blouse? Hmmm... ~Janet in Canada

I absolutely adore this outfit, and think you made a great choice with the pockets. One thing I might have done to add a little nod toward the collar by putting a little white strip at the ends of the sleeves, and have button details on the sleeves, and more of the little finishing trim on the ends of the sleeves. Still, this is a gorgeous piece, I love the buttons, I love the necklace you've accessorized it with, and the hat is gorgeous as always. I also, especially, love that you showed how you goofed a little, admitted to it, and told us how you fixed it. A lot of sewing channels fix stuff like this very quietly, or just mention it in a note in the video. I often have your videos playing while working on art or cleaning, as you're very personable, so actually hearing you say it was awesome.

I think I may have taken it to a more summer by taking up the sleeves and doing a bit of a ruffled cap sleeve. But that would probably totally make me rethink the front panel and color. Taking it from 20’s to something more 50’s like. I love your design. So many things you could do with a dress like that. 🦋

So fun! I also really appreciate the “ladies and gents” intro. Very inclusive for us men who live for this. ❤️ I’m also especially obsessed with the fact that you sew with a full manicure. #fabulosity. Also. When you say “small details” really what it is is: good taste. You have great sense of proportion. Love it!

I really like that your dress had a wider neckline than the vintage dress it was based on. Because of some physical problems, I can't tolerate a lot around my neck. Narrow neck openings are often the deal-breaker for me with vintage clothes, but I've been nervous to do my own patterns altering the neckline, afraid that it would "ruin" the look. Now that I've seen how fabulous your modification looks, perhaps I'll have the courage to try some of my own ideas. Just as soon as I can clear a path through my "to do" pile......

Thanks so much! Yes, these type of dress is very common, there are so many waiting for a new life! I actually have a course The Vintage Fit that covers exactly how to do all this! It will take you step my step how to find, fit and alter thrift store clothes and transform them into vintage styled outfits! You will learn what to look for at the shops so you can know what you can and cant alter, and then step by step the alterations! It will help you give you the confidence to any refashion you can create in your mind! It is at vintagesewingschool.com if you have any questions about it just let me know!
