I have a 1918 Chevrolet BabyGrand FA5. Bought new on our farm and traveled to California from Saskatchewan Canada twice. back when it was new. So no nice roads for a 3 week trip one way. I will have to put a video of it on here someday. Nice little 490 you have
What a nice video! It's a super cool car that, like you said, you just don't see out there! I always appreciate a longer video like this, from someone who actually has a decent amount of first hand experience with the vehicle. A quick showcase video showing it from different angles and letting it run is nice, but this more in depth video gives more of a glimpse of what it would've been like to own and operate this vehicle 100 years ago! Thanks for sharing this super sweet Chevrolet!
Very cool!!! I picked up a 1923 nash and its cool to see that even in the ealy years cars were very similar to eachother. Your car is a good driver and not stress about it.
That left rear wheel is very unsafe. I am surprised it has not collapsed on you. The car looks very nice. I think Grandpa's paint job gives it some historical patina and looks good. The engine looks and sounds very smooth.
alot of the old 4 cylinder engines were like that years ago 😊😊 I knew a fellow that had 1 just like the engine was overhauled it ran so 🤫 quite and smooth the only way U knew the car was running U could see the water pump turning and the real test I done this my self U take a nickel and put on the vavle cover it never moved and that's the way they should run 😊😊 OMG 11 24 2O23
I wouldn't be able to drive this since I don't know how to drive a stick but it dose look fun to drive. If you took this to the Chevrolet dealership, would they work on it? It is a chevy car but I imagine most of the employees never even worked on a car that old.
The 490 came out before Chevrolet was part of GM. Same guy (Billy Durant), but he wasn't with GM when he started Chevy. He regained control of GM and then merged Chevy with GM.
Just wondering why after starting you did not advance the timing to smooth out the engine. Lovely car! I have a 37 Plymouth. I take it everywhere. If I have to go to the shops only I'll take it if it isn't raining that is. Thanks for showing us your car!
490 distributor bodies were made of pot metal and many have deteriorated, but those used in later 20's are much more robust and can be easily modified to use in 490.
Porque no habren el capot nunca del lado derecho del auto para ver las salidas de escape segun el modelo el progreso en la cantidad de salidas de escape que tenian
these are just absolutely plummeting in price. it's unfortunate for the older fellas, the ones with personal connections to these vehicles are dying out... and the younger generations don't have the want nor the know-how to keep up on the maintenance even though it's quite simple. and brother, get some new rear wheels... those spokes are NOT supposed to be at that angle. you can find kits online for them, and the Amish make them still.
WHAT is wrong with your back spokes! Why are they all curving to the right like a vortex???? Anyway, Chevrolet was not a high end manufacturer and would be a step down from Briscoe and Maxwell. This 490 Chevrolet was not the Model T competitor, it would be the Chevrolet Superior that was the Model T competitor (the one that looks like a Model T). Most Chevrolets in 1921 where a shade of dark storm blue and olive green, but keep in mind that the unimpressive feeling of this vehicle is very well residualized! This 1921 Chevrolet has a very dated design for the 1921 modern look. This looks straight out of 1915... Just look at a 1920 Cleveland, or a 1921 Haynes, or a 1921 Elgin for comparison.
@@vintagecarprofessor I see, I assumed the superior started in 1920 from something I saw a long while ago. Sad the Chevrolet would try to follow in the Model T footsteps, Chevrolet had such a nice look in 1913-1914, though did maintan a separate model for the long touring design thankfully. Still, the Ford Model T concept was a dreadful one, and ruined the reputation of the era for people today who think all cars back then looked like that.
