This model was my father's first car, he bought it used for 50 bucks in the 40s. Had a rumble seat and the throttle was on the column witch is kinda nuts!

A lot of Model A owners don't know that the gear shift lever can be pulled up and swung over to the fuel tank to give a bit more leg room. Swing it back and that massive spring inside the shift tower pops it right back into place. Ive had a bout 10 Model A's over the years. Fun little car to hack around town in....not so much for getting down the freeway. At about 45 mph things start to vibrate from a not to well balanced crank shaft. As a kid in high school I had a 30 closed cab pickup to run around in. I put a explosion whistle on it and loved going around our small town at about 2 am and pull that lever. It was pretty loud and a lot of dogs went nuts. The explosion whistle has a adaptor for a sparkplug and uses the compression to make the pop type noise. Another annoying thing I did was when going down a hill.....shut the ignition off and then turn it back on. Loading the cylinders up with fuel it would make a Huge bang. One time I blew the muffler totally off the pickup and another time destroyed the exhaust manifold....did not do that again. Great memories, however some of the town folk might not agree with me.

I dunno, those pouches on the doors looks big enough for BFB. I give it a pass. 👍

Nice video. Two errors of fact though: 1) an electric starter was not an option- it was a standard feature & 2) all model A's were equipped with only a left taillight during the entire production run- the right hand taillight on your '31 was, no doubt, added on at a later date.

Another couple of errors; Model T production ended in 1927, not 1928. And there were over 4.8 million Model. A's produced, not 4.4 million. Other than that, well done.

Yep twin rear tail lights weren't required generally until 1968.. I owned a 1950 Willys CJ3a with only one taillight..

My brothers best friend in high school had a 1929 Model A 5 window coupe with a rumble seat. I got to ride in the rumble seat! The rumbel seat was actually behind the rear axle so the ride was exaggerated. Read bouncy. I loved it

I’ve now watched all your Ford Model-A videos. The Foor door sedan is still my favourite bodystyle followed by the pickup version. They say all modern cars look alike but I think this era suffers from cars being difficult to tell apart. Great reviews, thank you.

What a gorgeous old car! The only thing stopping me from dailying one of these is the brakes, but juice brakes are not hard to put on them.

A fine classic. Back when these were made, the owner likely would have done a lot of the maintenance. It helps that these are dirt simple. Every few years I'll see one trundling down the road and the archaic design looks even more stunning against modern cars. These can still cut it as a daily driver. A guy I know has two or three Model As but I haven't been able to angle my way into driving one yet. I know how to double-clutch but I've never driven an unsynchronized gearbox. I've also never had to adjust the timing going down the road.

I remembered going with my grandfather to this car museum near his house in Decatur Illinois when I was little. They allowed me to climbed into these classic cars. I think the cats are from the 1920’s or 1930’s. To me it was cool. The place burned down in the early 90’s. I was a part of my childhood that I never forget.

Great review, really enjoyed it. There's a song about the Model A called "Henry's made a Lady out of Lizzie" which while it may be wrong in crediting Henry Ford with it, is quite a fun song.

Zack, with the history of the "T", you didn't finish it. Henry didn't want to build this car that Edsel designed. Henry's wife told him in no uncertain terms that if he didn't start building this ca, she would leave him. So, as a smart man that he was, he decided to go ahead and build the thing.

Being the longtime owner of a '30 Model A Coupe, I can offer you a few corrections on your video. But first, of course, I enjoyed seeing it. Ford actually started turning out Model As in late '27, not '28. I'd have to look up the exact date. The engine displacement was 200.5 CI, not 200.1. And that A you drove was called a Special Coupe because of the leatherette covering of the rear half of the cab. And the Special Coupe was only made for a few months in '29 as I recall, making it sort of rare. I couldn't get a good look at your headlight lenses. If they were the vertical bar type (called fluted), those would be 1928 lenses. But the car itself, also judging by the taillight, is a '29 A.

And regarding styling- in their date and time period the Model A was quite attractive. Round fenders, peaked grille, nice proportions- compare it to a Chevy or a Plymouth of the era, the Model A was arguably the best looking of the bunch.
@jimervin1637
@jimervin1637 Год назад
You're darn rights the A had the best styling, at least in it's price range. Just compare it with a Chevy in those years. For instance, the lower edge of the windshield frame on a Chevy was straight across. On the Model A, however, it was curved to follow the curve of the cowl.

Something I wish stuck around is a manual starter crank. How convenient would it be to hand start a car with a dead battery?
@jacobfleming565
@jacobfleming565 2 года назад
No, thats horrible. And it killed many people and it injured many more. Theyre very dangerous just like starting a plane with the propeller
@willg125
@willg125 2 года назад
@@jacobfleming565 it is if you don't know how to do it properly. If you're on the wrong side or pushing down it can be really dangerous, yes.
@bwofficial1776

Russian cars had provisions for a crank almost until the end of the Soviet Union. Poor Soviet quality starters + batteries and Siberian winters meant that electric start wasn't always reliable.
@misterthegeoff9767
@misterthegeoff9767 2 года назад
My Dad's first car was a Ford Popular which still had a hand crank as well as a starter. When the dynamo died he couldn't get it fixed because he was working as a mobile service tech and needed the wheels for work so he used to drive it all week on the battery, hand cranking it to save power and then on Friday night swap the battery out for a second one he'd had on charge at home all week and drive all weekend on that one.
