Can a Millennial get a 94 year old car running ???
In this video we try to get my grandfathers 1928 Ford model A running that he has owned since 1977 . The car has been parked for the last 17-18 years but thankfully he has stored it inside. It has a flathead inline 4 cylinder 201 cid. with 40 horsepower , and 3 speed manual transmission. I have always loved this car as he has owned it for my entire life and I played in it a lot as a child.

Thank Edsel Ford for the Model A. He contributed more to the Model A and Ford then he'll ever get credit for. I was lucky enough to drive Model As in the 1980s and 90s and owned a 1941 Ford pickup for 25 years. The A has more character than anything I've driven in my 41 years of driving. Seeing and hearing it made me smile ear to ear.

Those old Fords are Classics. My grandmother drove one on Ocean View Ave as a job working for the DOD during world War 2. Her duty was to make sure people were using the required headlightshades or turning lights off if not so as to avoid being spotted by Nazi U-boats crusing in Chesapeake Bay spying on Norfolk beaches.

I'm 73 and actually remember riding in two different A's when 4 or 5. My dad had a flatbed pickup, and a model AA dump truck. "Heater" was a 3rd party/ aftermarket trumped shaped device around the exhaust manifold that scooped air from the fan and sorta blew it into the floor area. The dump truck had a mechanical LIGHTED turn signal arm you pulled out with a chain---nearly vertical for right hand, and out somewhat down for left turn. I once took a hammer to the headlights "to see the little man inside" and got spanked both times. Also for a short time we had "the end of times" for a doodlebug Dad and Gramps had built years before. I broke a rod and ran on 3 for a short time one winter (plow) and then threw a rod and broke the engine. You are one up on me, I"ve never got to drive one

What you had shown was a crack in the exhaust manifold attached to the 4 banger. Then would be working by sealing up with brass and flux rod and weld/brazed seam. There is a way to seam them together of this crack of manifold. Clean it real clean with electric angle sander spinning before start to weld. Do you use welder?

Beautiful, hope you get this car sorted out in due time! I would recommend picking up some literature on the subject, The Model A Mechanics Handbook by Les Andrews is practically a must have! Among other things the Owners Manual and Service Bulletins book are great to pick up. You should also if you don't already have them pick up the Nu-Rex timing wrench, Model A Crank/Tire Iron, and Brake Adjustment Wedge tool. The Carburetor in the car at the moment appears to be an aftermarket Tillotson carburetor, which was a popular replacement for the original cast iron Zenith carbs. Good thing too looking at the rest of the engine bay, as an original Zenith would probably have quite a bit of rust problems compared to the stamped Tillotson. The spring connected to the throttle body of the carb is actually supposed to be on the choke rod holding the sleeve over the rod to carburetor connection, I'm not sure why its been connected to the throttle in such a way. The biggest tip I can give off the start is to make sure you grease and lubricate everything, many vital components will suffer wear and tear if not properly greased and lubricated. Lubrication of the Distributor is a big one, which will prevent it from locking up like that in the future. Take good care of that car, hope it brings you as much fun as mine has!

Them kids really are a real natural with a clutch! The throttle lever is great for teaching the ones that aren’t and for stop signs on steep hills. If you shut off the fuel tap as you’re parking it the float bowl will be almost empty when you shut it down. I run carbs dry on anything with a fuel tap.

On the distributor, I drilled a hole through the large screw on the top and down into the center of the shaft and then drilled a hole at 90 degrees into the shaft itself lower down. These holes connect so that you can oil the shaft through the top screw in the future. It does work. It brought a BIG smile to my face watching you drive around the yard with your family.

Love watching yalls videos. I find it funny you was cleaning the carb on a parts washer using it as a table with carb cleaner. Still trying to catch up on all the videos keep up the good work.

Your kids will forever remember they drove their great grandads 1928 Model A Ford! A memory I hope they cherish forever. You were right Josh, there would not be many (if any) 13 year old's and indeed whatever age Ralphie and Squeezy is also. I am looking forward o watching the next video tomorrow night as I play catch-up. on the Model A.

My dad had a 31 deluxe coupe with the cowl lights, interior light, and a clock in the rear view mirror. It had a trunk when he bought it in 1964, but he turned the hinges around and made a rumble seat. He also put in highway gears. He was a fantastic mechanic, and I saw that thing do 75 mph, no joke, that thing flew. He had it tuned so we'll, he would retard the spark all the way and it would sound like tickey tickey, tickey tickey, real slow like. That 60 lb. flywheel just carrying it. They fired different,1243, not 1342. My dad's gone now, and I miss him and the way he could drive that thing. You had to double clutch them and he never ground a gear, even when down shifting. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.
