Cat 60 hand starting, pushing a little dirt, and loading on a trailer.
2017 K&O show
The reason it's running so slow is the carburetor needed worked on but nobody had the time that year. The only time this thing ever runs is when it gets taken to this show.

.......yeah, but this machine is very strenuous on the operator, pulling and pushing those mechanical controls and it is low powered and slow. The operator would be very tired by the end of the day. It was the early days of the evolution of dozers.
@NOUSERNAMESLEFTFUUCK

A lot of things built today will last longer than obsolete counterparts of the past. Many consumer products/industrial/commercial are engineered and manufactured at a much higher degree than in the past with superior materials, especially the latter two. It's true there's a lot of junk out there, but there's no need to make a sweeping generalization and deny some of the truly impressive modern engineering.

It is very awesome to me that a machine rapidly approaching 100 years old still works, and well enough to do real work if it was needed for it. To those who are saying otherwise, this engine sounds very healthy, with the exception of the fact that the operator was suffocating it to death. The trailer loading was PAINFUL. Why was he so dedicated to keeping it so suffocated? Open it up a little and it'll climb that trailer like it's not even there. She's clearly still sound; she can definitely take it!

Me hubiera gustado que estos operadores de hoy,hubiesen tenido la oportunidad de manipular un armatoste de estos para que vean lo que era de verdad ganarse unos pesos de más en aquel entonces. Patrick Leabo well considering that most modern crap today by bobcat doesn’t have fuel injections like they used to... now the nodes are electronic so there is limits to the high performance that we used to get back in the 60-80s I think it was the early 2000s that the bobcat stopped making engines all together for their equipment...

Hi guys great video thanks ,we have vintage kit like this over here in Wales (that's east of you over the pond ) we add petrol to the manifold to cold start ,you guys call it gasoline then we switch over to TVO that's tractor vaporising oil , I think you guys call it kerosene .Am I right or am I missing something ? @AroundtheFarm
@AroundtheFarm 5 лет назад
All we run is gasoline.
@markchriestenson3257
@markchriestenson3257 4 года назад
My grandfather had a John Deere that you did that with, but he mostly ran straight gasoline (petrol) in it. You can get more power with kerosene if you needed it. Pulling a rake, you don't really need it.
@robertboyd3863
@robertboyd3863 2 года назад
@@markchriestenson3257 It was a special fuel they all used, I don't think it was kerosene , always used it in the old John Deere, was not good to run gas in them after starting
@markchriestenson3257
@markchriestenson3257 2 года назад
@@robertboyd3863 I think he called it power fuel. But it was similar to kerosene which is what he used. I have some flywheel engines that will run on kerosene, but only after you warm it up on gasoline. It didn't atomize as well as gasoline. But after it's warmed up, it will burn it. On my Fairbanks, there is a bowl in the carburator that you fill up with gasoline. And the main tank you fill up with kerosene. There are 2 mixture valves. One for the gas and the other for the main tank. You close the main tank needle valve, open the gas valve. Start the engine. When the bowl in the carb is nearly empty, you open the main tank needle valve and slowly close off the gas valve, while it's still running. The burn is longer with power fuel/kerosene when compared to gasoline. Gas flashes quickly, kerosene will burn longer during the power stroke, so it pushes longer against the piston, giving more power.
@robertboyd3863
@robertboyd3863 2 года назад
I believe the correct term was distillate fuel , but checking back these were simply gas engines, gas is what they used for them in the Nebraska tests

Does she meet tier 4 emissions standards? Lol This is so cool though, but just imagine being the guy that had to use this, and get it going in winter.

Man no wonder our old timers were such a pain in the ass to deal with. Can you imagine running some hunk of shit machine like this for about 12 or 14 hours a day what sort of mood you would come home in much less you would be completely deaf

Ever see a man get pulled through a one inch gap? because this is how you end up seeing a man get pulled through a one inch gap. Your shoe lace was honestly flipping off death for a couple seconds.

Would be a cool video of a cool old dozer if there wasn't a bunch of dumb kids making a bunch of noise in the background.!!!

I am surprised that old cat hardly has the power to get itself up on the trailer. Why does no one use the throttle lever on these old cats they have allot more power when the engine is throttled up. Maybe read up on those old cats you can learn about the throttle lever, what it does and how it works. Then in the future loading the cat up on the trailer will be easy with no worries of the motor dyeing out.

Are those decompression valves?

Yes most early large hand cranked engines had them. It helps roll the engine over top dead center. After it starts, you had to carefully close them without getting burnt from the hot gasses coming out of it.

I don't know why he did not raise the RPM just a tiny bit.

Doug Stern those machines are made to run super low to almost stop rpm.he was operating it at the optimal rpm.he was going slow loading because if he let the machine go up and over the top of the loading ramp on to the trailer to fast it could throw him out of the seat and over the top of the hood (motor)when the machine teeter totted and slammed forward back down at the top of the trailer or,one track could spin on the metal ramps and let it spin sideways and flip over.same with humps bumps rocks and things.its no fun getting thrown out of your seat onto the hood while the machine is moving that is a ballet act within itself. operating a dozer is not as cut and dry as they mey seem. they take menny years of experience to learn how to operate but if you can operate one big or small old or new you can operate them all.
