Its been a long time since posting, but it is sheerly just due to how busy I have been. I was finally able to get the car running, so I just had to make a video. I am calling this car the ported coupe, as I built it all by myself in my new england carport. I turned every nut and bolt, and it has finally added up to something.

I like your build and the fact that you built it yourself is even better. I finished my '30 Model A coupe (50s hot rod) about a year ago after about 5 years on and off. Started it to have something to do in my free time. Finally got it on the road and couldn't get it to go 55mph without it shaking all over the place. Tried everything, balance, alignment, etc. No luck. Finally put the front wheels and tires off of my '32 on and lo and behold took it up to 70 with no shaking. Turns out it is my expensive American Classic white walls are out of round. Life is better when you drive a hot rod.

You realize you know more about these cars than 99% of all the kids your age! You sure know much more than I do!

Just found your channel, and thoroughly enjoyed your walk-a-round. Your rod brings back memories from my hot rodding days in the 50’s-60’s. It’s great to see young guys still carrying on with hot rods like yours. Good job, my friend.

I'm watching this with my father who is cutting up the first car he has owned, a 31 Model A Ford Tudor, and we have been searching for Model A hotrod vids and yours has stood out the most for the home built one man operation. Great work! Will love to see how this goes!

Great update Ben, I've followed the project from the beginning. What an accomplishment. The car came out great. You should be very proud of yourself for putting it all together, there was a lot of stuff to figure out, and you did it, learning as you went. TROG 2018!!!!

Your toe-in should be opposite what you stated! You want 1/8 - 3/16" toe-in at the front! In other words, the tires closer together at the front, not at the rear! With the tires spread further apart at the front, it will never track or steer properly! You also want 6-8 degrees of caster! Camber is built in to the axle. Whoever told you to open the tires at the front does not know what they're talking about! I've been building early Ford hot rods for over 35 years, happen to have a '30 coupe hi-boy at the moment with a 286" flathead, '39 top loader, '36 rear w/V8 quick change, open drive line. Drilled and dropped A front axle, split bones, F1 steering etc. Toed-in, not toed-out!

If you decide to chop it check out lords of customs and some others these cars make it easier to chop for obvious reasons as for your deck lid think about some short hydraulic prop rods that will keep the lid from twisting a fire extinguisher gives peace of mind too hope this helps looks great

Very nice job. I have a pile of '30 Model A coupe parts and was thinking something almost exactly what you ended up with except mine will be on '32 frame rails. I only hope to end up with something as nice as yours. I wish I had done it when I was your age. Parts were cheaper and time was plentiful. Enjoy that thing, nothing sounds like an uncorked flathead.

The Mechanist the only upholstery in the car is the seat, and it was done supposedly by a local person with marine pleather. I actually traded some parts for it so I don't know all of the details.

Hello Ben, I see you are in Maine. So am I. I live between Farmington, Skowhegan and Sugarloaf. Is there anyway you can tell me where you are. Maybe we can get together sometime. I also am working on a '30 Model A coupe. I have had this car in my basement for about 8 years. I recently got some ambition and doing some work to it. It has a Chevy 350 that came out of a Corvette, but it is originally from a Ford pickup. It has a 4 speed tranny, which seems to sift very nicely. I know Maine towns and cities are all over the place. If you would like to meet up sometime if it is not too far, we can talk shop.

Lloyd Dalton hey Lloyd! I’m actually out in Michigan now, but the car is back in Wells. I am thinking to doing the pinetree jamboree though, so that may be the best place/ time to talk. It should be a good event

Just wondering about your rear suspension. Is the spring on top of the axle or behind it. I'm trying to find a spring that I can mount on top of axle. Any suggestions? Mine is a '30 sport coupe high boy.

Nice work, it's been enjoyable to watch you build this very authentic hot rod. The floors came out great! Where did you come up with the hold down clamps for your fuel tanks? I have the same 02 bottle
@BenLeBlanc1
@BenLeBlanc1 5 лет назад
Christopher Dixon Thanks- I just used 16 gage flatstock. I cut two inch and a quarter wide by however long strips and welded half of a 7/8 in tube cut lengthwise to the end, and gusseted the sides of the tube back to the flat stock. I then cut and shaped a 1/4 inch thick by 1/2 inch wide piece of steel to a round profile on one side and a flat on the other. I put one of those in each side of the strap/ tube ends and put a bolt/ nut through the assembly. That allowed for the bolt to be not perfectly square to the end of the strap while still working.

The worst thing you can do is chop the top. Everyone does and they look like shit. Hardly enough room in the car as it is. I would suggest that you find a chopped one to sit in and see what I mean. Totally ruins the car and you cant go back. Another thing, you might try and find a beehive oil cooler. Would be really cool on your really cool car!
