Father and son Ford Coupe hot rod build | Why I Drive #41

"I guess that means it's time to sell off these cars," are the words Chris Niederkrom uttered to his friend. Chris had just found out that his wife was pregnant, and was under the impression that selling off all his projects was just how being a responsible adult worked. Fortunately, the friend gave him some sage advice: "That's not how you do it. Now is the time to buy more cars, and involve the kids in everything." Now, some 15-ish years later, Chris and his son, Dean, cruise down River Road alongside the Guadalupe River in a 1933 Ford Coupe hot rod that they built together.

Anyone who chooses to be offended over how one man builds HIS hot rod isn’t a hotrodder. I get the purist thing but I view hotrodding different from a restoration. We all don’t have the same budget when building. Nothing better than a dad and his son spending time wrenching
@BKHD8
@BKHD8 2 года назад
I never understood people getting mad at an engine in a car that isn’t theirs. It’s his car, his engine, his money and his time so it belongs wherever he wants to put it. If you want it done differently then by all means go and build one yourself the way you want it.

100%. The having to shout at each other probably helps loosen things up, too!

All who whining about the Chevy engine should educate themselves a bit more. Starting in the mid50's hotrodders put chevy engine in almost everything (and olds, mopar, etc. too), because it was cheap and make good power. People nowadays seems forget what is hotrodding. Congrats to Chris and his son for making this cool car!

Does not matter what motor it has in it, it is a hot rod, great connection with father, and son.

Love the Why I Drive series! Wish my dad was still here to share. He passed away to a brain tumor back in 1989. It was his love of cars that was passed down to me Including the 1966 F100 he bought new October 1965 and I learned to drive in it that fall. I now have 10 1966 Ford trucks. Building a exact clone to the one he bought new. The day he brought it home I told him some day I was going to buy a brand new 1966 F100! Little did I know only being 8 yrs old it meant a 1 yr only and it would take me 45+ yrs to learn the art of restoration so I could do just that! Build my own to look new vs being able to go out and buy one. Way back in the late 70's I did build a '34 3 window coupe and since then had a 1932 Roadster with a injected 427 SOHC, and also owned the Holley '32 3 window Coupe they built for the magazine series. "No Mercy"

This “why I drive” is about connection, feelings, emotion… When I am driving with my 10yr old son, that’s when we always have the best conversations!!! That is the real value of a car! It creates memories for life!

As a man now 40 who lost my dad at 16, I have to thank you for this. What a beautiful relationship between dad and son. Would've loved to have had that connection to my dad, and hope any upcoming dad's take notice of this. This is a great way to bond together with your sons or daughters. HalleluYAH

One of the best videos I've seen on this channel, I grew up with model A,s they brought me home from the hospital in a 4 door sedan , mafca, swapmeets , antique nationals , we have a picture with 5 model A,s on the front lawn , dad was a true FORD guy .

How cool that your son embraced your passion for hot rods. You obviously have more than handyman skills. Chopping a top and getting it right requires some journeyman skills. I'm only part way through your very polished video. I'm a car guy but your relationship with your son and how you bonded over this car project is the real story, however, I still have questions about this build that were not revealed in your video. Congratulations on this amazing car. Happy for you and your son that you have such an amazing relationship. You are blessed.

I went to a good guys event a number of years ago and they had an entire baseball field of just '32 fords. Probably 80% had small block chevys, 15% flat heads, 4% hemi's, and 1% odd ball nail heads, mercury, Cadillac and whatever else. The point is the SBC's belong in hot rods. If it's cool it's not wrong

Just a simple dependable engine, can pull in any parts store lot and prob get stuff to fix it, I put a chevy engine in a mustang as a cheap race car back in 2006, caused a stir at local track, now it's the normal thing

Personally, I'd like to see more flathead 6 and 8 cylinder hot rods and those from orphan marques. A whole lot cooler than the dime-a-dozen SBC in my mind!
@roymiller6964
@roymiller6964 7 месяцев назад
That's what Chevy people think. I prefer Ford engine in a Ford and you saying the sbc belongs in every hot rod is a slap in the face to other hot rodders. And people especially Chevy people forget that the flathead Ford v8 started the hot rod craze
