For the love of the Irish cottage, we have preserved this old cottage over 20 years now. We continue to address the continuing problems and offer solutions to our clients on how to deal with rising damp in old cottages.
In this video we walk through the products that can be used to fix damp rising. With the help from Quigley Preservation Ltd, we have successfully damp proofed our 1930's Fishermans Cottage.
For remedial damp-proofing / waterproofing, the rising damp in older buildings due to the lack of or breakdown of existing DPC's and often penetrating dampness from higher external ground levels leads us to a number of tried and tested methods for dealing with damp.
1. Tanking of walls using HEY'DI K11 Flex and HEY'DI Special System
2. DPC injection using WYKAMOL Ultracure DPC Cream
3. Electro Osmotic damp-proofing using the LECTROS SYSTEM
4. Ventilated lining membrane using WYKAMOL CM8
The main goal here is to protect the building from the ongoing stress and exposed elements and ensuring the facades are waterproofed. Stone or brick facades where exposed to the elements can be sealed using HEY'DI KIESLEY Cream, a silane based clear facade waterproofer. Siliane based creams are deeper penetrating and therefore can last up to 12 years where exposed to UV rays.
With sealing of joints/cracks in concrete, these can be sealed by pressure injection method using NORMET TAMPUR 130, a single shot hydrophobic polyurethane sealant. Often, the areas would also be tanked using HEY'DI subsequent to the pressure injection works.

Good video but one problem... You shouldn't use cement on stone walls it draws the damp in , you should have done more homework and used lime mortar to cure the damp problem completely . Give it 8-10 years and it'll be back but higher up the wall and in the floors.

Hi, this is a fully tanked system. Cement as part of the manufacture instructions is mixed with the K11 sealer. When applied to the stone to round off the edges before the K11 paste is added and more render. Normally this is installed to 1200mm high. I just had to take a chance doing it lower for aesthetic reasons. So far so good. Rising damp is unlikely to rise above 1200mm. In relation to lime, it is the traditional method but unless you air your house for at least 4hrs every day this won’t work. You would also have mould issues putting furniture against the walls.

This is so helpful! So in short, you plastered the walls withcement upto the area where its not damp anymore, preferably under the floor cement, apply the k11 and then plaster it again with cement?

Only use lime /sand render on this type of building

all that you are doing with this system is hiding the problem temporarily. You are trapping the moisture into the wall. Is the stonework exposed externally? Those products that you are using that seem to want to seal off stone walls when the approach should be, as you say at the beginning, is to let the walls breathe.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!!! I'd watch a few videos by Peter Ward if I were you. Please don't go near anyone else's property.

100% Proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. He has just exacerbated the issue, his ignorance is astounding. Block it out bollocks to the structure seems to be the approach of the lunatic.
