I purchased this 1930s Wyandotte Folding Wing Airplane as a lot with several other extremely rusty planes. The person I bought them from stated he found them in his grandparents basement in a five gallon bucket that had filled up with water. You can definitely tell that it's had a rough life, but then again, it's 90 years old! I'll be lucky if I make it to 90. This poor little airplane was missing its wheels, and propeller. I researched and found that this model had two color variations. A blue body with red folding wings or a red body with blue folding wings. I decided that I liked the red body better. overall this was a fun little project and it'll go nicely with the rest of the collection. As always, THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! Please like, subscribe and comment to help my channel grow!

I can honestly say you're one of the few that does true restorations not staged restoration. The things you restore have genuine age,wear and rust not that strange artificial rust some people add . You projects really turn out beautiful.

How can you tell they artificially rust the items. I'm curious
@elizabethkizzar5489
@elizabethkizzar5489 2 года назад
@@Jar0fMay0 It a combination of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt that's painted on the item or the item is dipped in. Look up how to artificially rust metal and you'll find some videos on how to do it. Also how to spot fake rust is the color if it's orange and red rust all over the item it's probably a artificial rust job but if the rust is varied colors of red ,orange, brown and black and the rust is patchy and uneven. Thicker is some spots of the item and almost none in other areas and you can see spots of the original finish. Also no bugs if it it's been in a shed or attic for years it's gonna be a spider hotel. I hope this helps with spotting the fake stuff.

putting plastic on the wrecker was a great idea. You should call around to your local sign shops and get a few pieces of clear laminate that we use for vinyl wraps. It sticks really well (almost permanent), and allows air to dissipate from under it. That way you can protect the wrecker bed and also use on the dump trucks, etc. Only get wrap vinyl laminate tho, the rest is really thin and hard to work with. Just a tip from a sign guy!

My dear old mom passed away today. She would have been seven years old when the toy was new, at the beginning of the Great Depression. She said that as a chid, she never had something referred to as a toy. She and her seven siblings didn't have shoes in the summertime- no running water, or electricity. Her goal in life was to not be poor, and through education and work ethic had a decent life. This indeed, was a rich kid's toy.

I was going to ask if these toy companies made toy rockets or tanks, then I realized there were no rockets in 1930. Very relaxing to watch. TY.
@rogerrabbit80
@rogerrabbit80 2 года назад
The first "Flash Gordon" science fiction serial was in 1936. It was on January 22, 1930, that Buck Rogers first ventured into space aboard a rocket ship in the newspaper comic strip. So rocket type toys were possible in the 1930s. Tanks were used in the First World War, so there were probably some of them around n the '30s.

@rogerrabbit80
@rogerrabbit80 2 года назад
@@brandonb1681 Interesting bit of trivia. In the 1980s TV show, "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century", there was an episode where Buck Rogers was flying with a retired pilot, Major Gordon. At one point, Buck gives Gordon some advice, to which Gordon replies "I've been doing this since before you were born". This is funny on several levels. Since Buck Rogers had been in suspended animation for 500 years was the obvious one. But "Major Gordon" refers to Flash Gordon, whose adventures were made into serials before Buck Rogers. Also, Major Gordon was played by "Buster" Crabbe, who played both Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers long before Gil Gerard (the actor playing Rogers) was born.
@brandonb1681
@brandonb1681 2 года назад
@@rogerrabbit80 I was quite young but I remember the modern Buck Rodgers episode you reference. I believe they were decimated by bad food disks, so they called older pilots out of retirement. I guess I should really check out the originals for both of these IP's. Thanks again for your input Roger Rabbit.

The end results of your restorations are always amazing. The attention to detail you take is an indication of how much love you feel for restoring these older toys, saving them for future generations to enjoy. Part of wishes you sold the restored toys and another part of me says no can't afford it. I do have a few questions for you on this restoral: Why didn't you use filler to cover the pitting on the wings and body? How forgiving is the powder coating you use in terms of pitting? While the metal wheels look amazing, with the yellow really popping, wouldn't the toy have had wooden wheels originally? I look forward to more restores. Keep up the great work. And give the cat some pets and maybe some nice treats from all of us.

Well done Chip. I see the sheep in the clouds. Are you telling us they have died and gone on to a better pasture? They must have been good or they might have been licking flames, I guess. A very nice restoration, although it was pretty straightforward, compared to some with more parts. The addition of new steel wheels compliments it nicely. The things of history that you learn from toys is great. Folding wings were around before WWII. Didn't know that. Thanks for the great video. Stay safe.

I love cars and used to play with my brother’s matchbox toy cars as a little girl 50 plus years ago. You are a master crafter and your tools are amazing. I appreciate the labels too as it allows for some understanding. Thank you for making me feel so happy watching this. I like your sense of fun too. All the best to you from South Africa 🇿🇦 I’m a new subbie for sure ⭐️

SMASHING! I'm dead jealous of your gear. I'd love to be able to afford to get the gear to restore toys. Such a satisfying result!

When you started to remove all the rust, I could even smell a dust, I even think of the work that went into this restoration
