Sitting since the 50's, the guys at Strongs Garage get her running again! plus shop tour and more! and... don't forget to subscribe to their youtube channel at strongs garage!
Do the guys with the garage want some history on the Fralick on Bayfield St. in Barrie Ontario? I was born in Barrie, and grew up about 25 minutes west in the village of Brentwood. That garage was just up from the bay/waterfront on the west side of the street. Fralick is a common name in town. Let me know and I can check it out. I now live in Sussex New Brunswick but still have lots of friends and ties to Barrie. Let me know.
The charge light doesn't tell you about your battery, it tells you about the alternator. What _might_ have happened is when you were sitting at the light for awhile idling, the alternator was turning slowly enough so that it didn't turn out the light. Then as soon as you took off the alternator was spinning a lot faster and turned the light out. There could still be things wrong so you should get it checked out.
Thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks for taking us along and thanks to Strongs Garage for taking the time. BTW, nice to see your former fixtures being integrated and utilized.
I saw a citrine on Midsomer Murders on PBS last night. Same red color and even had the metal trim under the doors. Thought of you and it gave me a little thrill since I'd watched you bring your car back from the dead.
Love their shop and the old cars. Would love to have one but not in my options. I can enjoy through you and not have to pay for gas and upkeep. The smell and ambiance is missing though.
That was an awesome shop to tour. It reminded me of the shop that my dad worked at in the early 60s. It had been open since the early 30s. My dad’s bay was always spotless as were his tools. He would get so upset if someone would borrow a tool and put it back greasy or not return it. He passed the take care of your tools on.
I automatically smiled so big when they got the car started. Just thinking about seeing and hearing the same things as the people who owned it back in time. Thanks for sharing - I didn't know how much I needed to connect with this.
Love Matt's Merc! I learned to drive a 3 on a tree in a 1965 Merc . Always love a visit to Strong's Garage, thanks for taking us along. Glad your charging system sorted it's self out.
I'm always looking forward to my Edmonton or Brüderheim RU-vidr videos. I watch Matt and Jim to get ideas on my own garbage(which houses a '31 Model A).
Lol. As a 30 year old female, I had to explain to my friends this past week why I have a bunch of car restoration videos in my history. Apparently females my age don't typically watch these types of videos lol. But I find them fascinating!
Yeah male chauvinists are still around. When I was in high school 60 plus years ago I wanted to take shop. I was sternly told "Shop is not for girls" I was so mad but that was the way it was.
Bought a few bits n pieces for my 50s style T hot rod from Matt and will probably buy a few more before I’m done. I definitely need to make a trip out to the shop before the snow flies.
Alexander, Back in Toms River, N. J. , Kreen's Auto Repair was across the street from the Art Store where I worked. Their major repair guy was named "Wolfgang", from Germany.. like Lynda from Ohio :),and his apprenticeship required him to build fenders and other parts from sheet metal, pretty much by hand, not unlike what these fellows do. A really fun episode. This morning I was trying to imagine what would help to sustain your great Y.T. tradition since you closed the store, and I felt it had to be variety of places and things, but especially the People, speaking to them , your family, friends and acquaintances and following their interests is a key part of your success. Way to go! Cheers, Rik
Dear Mr. Archbold. 👍👌👏 Another great video. Strong's Garage is definitely an awesome place. Your old shelves fit in there like a glove. Matt and Jim are great guys and real car enthusiasts. The cars out of the seventies look sooo wrong in the shop, especially the blue one (although already half a century old). 2) I'm glad that the charge control light kind of sorted itself out. Please kindly allow me to suggest, that you nevertheless check the alternator respectively the complete system. Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all involved people. Post Scriptum: Please, Sir, it's Porsche with an "e" at the end and definitely not pronounced Porsh! 😱🙈 As a German my foot nails roll up every time I hear Porsh! You wouldn't like us to say Chevrol or do you!? 😁 ;-) Maybe Janis Joplin can help you with this!? 🎼Oh lord won't you buy me....🎵
Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed visiting with the guy’s again. Apparently, they have a magic touch, like you, when it comes to starting old cars, as if by magic!
Alex, you might be interested to know that Bert Joseph Fralick (a veteran of WWI) was born in 1896, and was a mechanic in Port Perry in 1921, so he must have done well to own his own shop by 1926. He was also listed as a dealer for the Chandler car, which ceased in 1929. Bert died in 1988, but I believe his family still lives in the Barrie area. (Genealogy is my thing).
I like this circle of friends that you all run in. curiosity --strongs garage ---coldwarmotors---all good friends. hard to come by in these times.keep on keeping on
As a devotee of Curiosity Inc since before we learned who Mary was, this was a joy to see and a whole new Canadian friend following the dream. It's a gift that keeps on giving, Alex. I remember watching you buy some of the artifacts in the Edmonton Hot Rod Museum, the shelves they were on, and Josh install/rebuilding them. Feels good to see you get those pieces in just the right hands. I'm figuring your Citroen got you home in high style.❤
Just before you commented on almost everything being green I had said that to myself and you made it verbal. Wow , love the older cars and trucks and soon years from now we will be saying that about electric cars. Wonderful way to take a look back in time seeing all those beauties. Luckily you appreciate restoring and using what you restored. You are so impressive and daring and timely. This was so cool and your wheels are turning how to expand your garages to accommodate all your future finds and those vehicles are so fortunate. You are a dapper collector and have that quest running through your veins . Have you ever contemplated a Hudson ?
Oh, my gosh.....wish I wasn't nearly 80 yrs old....that Chev. makes me want to get my hands dirty & join a car club !..... No tools any more, either but Wow...that looks like fun ! (money pit ?)
That '48 reminds me of the '48 deep purple colored Chrysler my older brother bought from our neighbor in the 60's, for $85. USD. I bought a 56 Pontiac from him in '73 and paid $35. USD for it. It was a three on the tree, had synchromesh and was the smoothest shifting stick I've ever driven. Back when cars had style!
Alex!!! What a fun jaunt. I love Strong’s Garage! Your filming was grand! I felt like I was there with you wandering through the shop. A few cool guys hanging out.
