In this episode, George describes an extremely rare version of Gibson's iconic L-00 series acoustic guitars made in the year: 1933.
As George states, in this episode, the 1933 guitar he plays in the clip has an uber-rare & different body shape ("narrower") than other L-00 model guitars from that same era (the 30's).
And, George also describes - in much further depth - what the word "rare" actually makes when it comes to guitar manufacturing and what factors truly make a vintage instrument "rare", in using that word.
These guitars are just simply amazing creations and the fact that the 1933 model has stayed in such GREAT shape....is simply = Amazing Craftsmanship!
Take It Away, Sir George & We Hope Everyone Enjoys = The New Episode!
Sincerely,
The Musician Network (TMNtv)

I just came across this video. I have a story to tell you. Recently, I have been thinking I would like to learn how to play guitar. Well, I knew my grandfather played guitar, and before he passed away, he gave one of his guitars to my mom. My grandfather grew up in Montgomery, Alabama. One of his best friends growing up was Hank Williams Senior. One of his aunts gave him a guitar when he was about 12 years old or so. They guitar they gave him was that exact guitar you are playing. I have been sitting here trying to figure out what year it is, and now I am pretty sure it is a 1933 based on what I am seeing. It is the black version with the white pickguard. It is sitting right next to me as I type this. When my grandfather was growing up he had his own band, and Hank had his own band as well. They would travel around playing county fairs and different things like that, and more times than not, my grandfathers band would beat Hank's band and win those competitions. At one point Hank asked my grandfather if he could join his band. When my grandfather ended up meeting the girl that would eventually become my grandmother, he stepped away from the band because he did not think that a married man with kids should be traveling around constantly, away from his family. Hank went on to become famous. I think I am going to teach myself how to play on this Gibson.

I can't remember WHERE I read or saw the following info, but it may pertain to this run of guitars. What I remember learning is that Gibson was once commissioned to run a special lot of L-00's for Montgomery Ward (or some other specific retailer) which were marketed by the retailer as a"cowboy" type guitar, or something of that nature. So I am now thinking that this peculiar L-00 may be part of a lot that that was commissioned by a retailor.

My theory: The HG-20 and 22 were a commercial flop and were discontinued in 1933. Gibson still had some of the tops and sides left and put them to use for L-00s.

Thomas, Thanks Again for Watching & For Your Comment. As George mentions, near the end of this episode, this incredibly rare "body design" of the L-00 is in his = Private Collection. That pretty much means it's SO RARE that no other guitars like it, exist. We have personally seen MANY of the incredibly unique "uber-rare" guitars & prototype models in George's Personal Collection & it is just Amazing. He, also, mentions that Vince Gill (a very good & close friend of George's) told George that he wanted to buy this particular L-OO so the "price" would probably be a = Gentlemen's Agreement, between them. We are going to ask George, directly, for you and will have his reply posted back to the video within the next few days. Stay Tuned for George's Answer! Sincerely, The Musician Network (TMNtv)

Hello Thomas, As we had promised - yesterday - here is George's direct reply to your Viewer Question: "A standard 1930 L-00 Gibson in fine original condition will typically sell for close to $4500. The unusually shaped 1933 model featured in the video is so rare that it is hard to apply normal standards of supply, demand, or prior precedent in an evaluation, but, in my opinion, it would be worth about $5500 in fine condition. George" There you go! Thanks for Watching & For Your Comment! Stay Tuned, The Musician Network (TMNtv)
