1937-52 Linkert M51L #101 carburetor rebuild 45 WL UL ULH WLA Harley by tatro machine
see how to rebuild a M88 Linkert carburetor that someone else had already rebuilt and destroyed its body. now its a correct M51L Linkert for the 1940 ULH bike it is going on. I used what I could and replaced the rest.

I had to invent the needles and the float. I think it works wonders

Hi, can't believe I just found this video 5 years later.. I'm almost certain it's my carb you're building in these videos. I finally got the bike going 2 years ago but if that m88 was any indication I'm sure you can picture what kind of condition the motor was in. Fast forward to today and I've finally had the motor completely rebuilt, and it was just this afternoon I was test riding the bike trying to dial this carb in. The bike starts great, idles well, revs cleanly stationary and accelerates relatively smoothly. I'm just having trouble with it stuttering while riding/coasting at low engine speeds.. regards Chris from Australia

hi, look to see if i plunged or changed the size of the main jet in the side of the carb body down inside the float bowl thread area. i have found out that if you plug or change the size of the hole it makes a huge difference on how the bike will take the throttle. i did this to few carbs but i don't know if i did it to your carb. all you would have to do is just drill it back out to the stock size jet and everything should be good. let me know if you need anymore help. thanks, tatro

@@TatroMachine had a look, it's plugged up. Issue we've noticed seems to be with the low speed. You can wind it all the way in or out and it makes little to no difference

It's been suggested that I boil the carb in caustic.. what are you thoughts?

Hi I have a working M41 carburetor

From what I am hearing, too much over bore or hone will defeat the purpose of the venturi affect (air around the sides)...they must sell over sized venturi's, throttle and choke disk, right?? What is the purpose of use of the bombsight venturi? racing? or what model uses them? Thx
@TatroMachine

DeeInTheHouse no one makes oversize parts for linkerts or any other carburetor. air leaks cause problems, inside or outside.bombsight venturis were used on race bikes and k-models. with the big carbs on these smaller motors the inner venturi helps the intermitted circuit work better. on bigger tracks you take that out and get more airflow.tatro

Great information, thank you. You said that you have to add another hole to the emulsion tube and open the other four up. How much larger are you opening them up and where are you adding the fifth hole? Second, how are you opening the idle slot up? Are you opening the holes in the idle slot any or is it just the slot between the holes? Thank you

all that info is in the videos, you just have to watch them. tatro

Shortly after I wrote that I did find the right video. Thanks. Do you sell the modified emulsion tubes?
