This black & white promotional film is about the Caterpillar Diesel DR7 Tractor . This was made in 1937 based on the roman numeral copyright shown.
Opening credits: Caterpillar Tractor Co presentation (:08-:27). A globe goes round and round. Wherever work is needed to be done, Caterpillar DIesel equipment is there. Shots of the engineering department as well as the proving grounds. Women open files of the records for the tractors. Shots of the equipment at work. Files being plucked (:28-2:57). Operator's instruction books are shown. Caterpillar equipment is shown at work. A credit on screen reads: IT'S UP TO YOU (2:57-3:36). Caterpillar Diesel Tractor pushes over a log. Tractors do more work in 10 hours of operation than a car does in 1000 hours of driving. To get the best out of your tractor, keep dirt out of the engine. How to do this is explained and shown in great detail with an animated engine. A man cleans the fuel injector. An animated explanation shows how to tell if the fuel injector has dirt or muck in it (3:37-7:57). More detail on cleaning valves and pumps. Always check with your instruction book before attempting to replace parts (7:58-9:11). Clean fuel is needed, buy clean fuel. And make sure that when adding fuel that the cap is clean. Precautions are always important to keep dirt from the fuel. Dirt settles in fuel so waiting 24 hours to draw the fuel will draw mainly clean fuel (9:12-11:44). Dirt can still cause trouble by getting into the engine from the air. An air filter is good for your tractor's engine. Check the air cleaner (filter) frequently. Clean fuel and water is always good.The engine's cooling system needs water but soft water is better than hard water (11:45-14:23). An experiment that shows lime deposit is performed. It is very bad so use soft water if possible. A man cleans his engine (14:24-16:25). Lubrication is required for certain parts of the tractor as well. Other preventative maintenance is shown (16:26-18:00). Caterpillar equipment is doing what it can to make sure you get what you deserve (18:01-18:33). End credits (18:34-18:43)
The Caterpillar D7 is a medium bulldozer manufactured by Caterpillar Inc.. The first D7 appeared in 1938. The D7C came next in 1955. The D7D came in 1959. The 160 hp D7E in 1961. The 180 hp D7F 1969.The 200 hp D7G in 1974.The 215 hp D7H in 1986.The D7H was the first D7 to come with the exclusive elevated drive sprocket undercarriage.The D7R replaced the D7H in 1996, followed by the D7R Series 2. The electric drive D7E entered service in early 2009. An agricultural version without the blade and rippers is commonly used by farmers.
Specially modified D7E's fitted with Rome plows were used to clear forest in the Vietnam war.The US Army used armored D7G to clear mine fields and unarmored D7G and D7H for earthworks. The armor was developed by the Israel Military Industries (IMI). Later, the US Army developed a remote controlled version of the D7G for mine-clearing applications.
We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment! See something interesting? Tell people what it is and what they can see by writing something for example: "01:00:12:00 -- President Roosevelt is seen meeting with Winston Churchill at the Quebec Conference."

Yes, 1937. A real spring picnic of a time in the USA. In the depths of the great depression, the dustbowl raging through the nation's food producing states, war clearly visible on the horizon, still common to die from small pox, polio, measles, or flu. Boy if I only had a time machine...

@keithammleter3824
@keithammleter3824 3 года назад
The answer is pretty much yes. I owned a 1950's D4 and the local dealer had all the parts I needed in stock. Have a look at Squatch's RU-vid videos on old Cats. If you local dealer doesn't have whatever you need, another dealer will. Things like engine blocks are difficult, but only a badly abused engine will render a block unusable.

I took a tour of the old Caterpillar tractor plant in East Peoria, IL back in 1974. Nearly fifty years later it looks like Caterpillar is holding its own and still doing quite well.

@ke6gwf
@ke6gwf 4 года назад
They put a lot of time and work into purchasing and restoring old films that otherwise would be lost forever, and the timestamp is there to prevent people from just downloading it and using it. The film itself is public domain, but all the work they put into improving it isn't. So the videos they post here are partly advertising for them, and partly public service making it available to us. If you want to watch it without the watermark, they will gladly sell you a copy, but think of it as the price to be able to see it for free.
@PeriscopeFilm
@PeriscopeFilm 4 года назад
Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes. In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous RU-vid users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do. Love our channel and want to support what we do? You can help us save and post more orphaned films! Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Even a really tiny contribution can make a difference.
