No starter, just put the 1st cylinder on compression stroke , mixure full rich, mag on, and 1/8 inch throtle fwd, spin it and hope it doesn't stop in flight (normaly with the wind milling it would continu to turn if you got good air speed.)
An old timer taught me not to curl my finger's knuckles over the prop, because if it back spins, it will pull you into the prop. I got to where I could do it with my right hand finger tips while the left hand had a firm hold on the window frame. Also avoid getting into a rhythm. After twenty minutes of propping on a cold day, I just about reached into the spinning prop when it finally fired up. It nearly ended my guitar playing. Great looking plane!
nice propeller effect. Looks like a boomerang sometimes in the video. This airplane is dated 1938, but answer me something. Does it have changed anything on airframe (steel parts) since it has been built, like wing mounts? Looks like brand new to me. Really nice video. Thanks for uploading.
How it flies wit 50Hp? How much climb it gives? What is it on windshield? It is some kind of reinforcement? Sorry for annoying questions, but I love this airplane so much. J3 is one of the most beautiful airplanes, for me. :-)
So Self-righteous in your ignorance. Every Cub built until mid war had the three piece windshield. Scroll down through this link to a pic of William Piper Sr. standing next to one. dmairfield.com/people/piper_wt/
