For balance. The Cub has the fuel tank between the firewall and the instrument panel (you can see the lower part of it below the panel). This is farther forward than most small airplanes, which have tanks in the wings. The more forward center of gravity requires the pilot to sit farther back to balance it out. This particular plane also has an auxiliary wing tank, but it feeds the main tank, so you still have to sit in back.
Absolutely love that video. Your meticulous care shows in every facet of that video -- from the amazingly straight, clean skin to your tidy hangar to the pleasing editing of the footage... And the music was a refreshing delight! Thanks so much for sharing that! :-)
Thank You! No I just shoot with a GoPro Hero3 (Black edition) camera and use iMovie on the iMAC. I'm an Airline Captain not a pro photographer. Part of the J3 fun is to fly with the door open and window up. Your only going about 70 mph and the view and cool breeze is just part of the fun! There is really No way one could fall out, it's a very deliberate effort to get out of the little stinker. The very best from California USA to Serbia!
Hi Steven, Very beautiful vídeo. The best J-3 Cub video I've seen. The music matched perfectly with the spirit of the flight. I'm also an ATP (in Brazil) and my very first flight was in a J-3 with 17 years old. I loved this video. It took me back 40 years ago. Thank you for share your flight with us. I signed up on your channel now to watch your other videos. Congratulations.
Father had a J3 here in Barcelona... Used to fly with him on Saturday evenings. Your video reminded me of my childhood. Really prisitine J3. Ours had the color changed to white and red since it had a paint job after WW2 (we believe it was military surplus sold in France/Germany).
Wow! Extreme beautiful aircraft!!! the cutest Piper J-3 have ever seen!! I fly a 1997 Cessna 172R with 160 HP fuel injected lycoming engine and a Diamond DA20-A1 Katana with 100 HP Rotax Carburetor engine . there is only 1 flyable original cub in Germany. your cub is very very awesome!
Thank You very much for the quick reply! Well, that explains the expert flying... I'm sure I'll get my PPL some day, and hopefully a Cub or a Taylorcraft of my own... Until then, it's FSX for me... Best wishes for speedy recovery to your Mom!
Another excellent video!!! I absolutely love your J3. I got my Commercial ASES in Florida in a J3 and I've been hooked ever since. Keep these videos coming!!!!
Steven, this is my favorite video on youtube for the j3 cub. The music is awesome, the shots are great and the plane is gorgeous. I love this plane. Great landing. I'm 24 years old and I do standup comedy. With the way my career is going ill have a j3 by the time i'm 86. Have a great day and fly safe my friend!
That´s my kind of (motorized) flight (I am also a sailplane pilot!)- In Brazil, I used to fly a "Paulistinha", our best version of the J-3, not so good, but still delicious. Thank you for the nice ride!
Interesting, I taught Lufthansa Pilots in Arizona for 15 years for PSA ! This plane was just sold, and I now have a new CubCrafters CarbonCub being built in Yakima, WA. at the factory !
Very Many THANKS! I'm picking up my new CubCrafters Carbon Cub SS in 10 days in Yakima, WA. and flying it back to Thermal. The pictured J3 was sold to a guy in Nebraska that has been watching me wax it for two years..(-:
Beautiful videos, Sir! Thank you so much for your effort to share the experience of flight in a Cub with us! I suppose you are a professional filmmaker? One quick question: I have noticed that you leave the door/window on the right of the plane open... Is it not a bit scary looking down like that? All the best to you and your family from Serbia!
I'm having a great time viewing your videos. I own a 1941 J3-C Cub, I use my iPad with Foreflight while flying in the C172 I fly as well (rent though) with a kneeboard case. What setup do you have for your mount? It's a great idea having up where it is.
Hi Ben! The best way to Navigate this kind of airplane is to just look out the window and use an Aeronautical Map called a "Sectional". It is true you can use a GPS or iPad to show the routes, mountains and rivers, but First you should learn how to easily navigate with a paper map. I recommend you start GLIDER lessons Now and Solo on your 14th Birthday. Flying a glider First really teaches you about flying, and it's VERY FUN! Take a Private Pilot ground school and your FAA Written test ASAP!
Great video! Very nice flight! We see that you tried to make beautiful chtby shooting! You can shoot great pictures, I also make videos about the aircraft, if I were you, would make a good movie about flying at you!
