Hello :D This story will take your heart by surprise, wrapping itself around you like a warm blanket...
Better than anything on cable, this Classic is wonderfully family-friendly, with LOVE and HOPE weaved throughout. You'll be glad you took the time to watch it :D
It is apparent, once (or more) watched, why this film was adapted from a serialized novel which appeared in The Saturday Evening Post from February 26 to March 26, 1938!
This Classic movie has something for everyone! (Including an amazing 1938 gorgeous Prototype Car!**)
Not to give too much away, this movie's a very touching Depression-Era story that is one of my all-time favorites! (I've added a tad more info on this movie below ;)
**So, are you a Classic Car enthusiast? Well, get ready to be introduced to a very special car! It's a beauty--and so advanced for the late 1930s! Watch for other futuristic inventions in this movie, as well!
A tiny story hint?
As a movie poster from UA put it very well, "Charming to Meet...Expensive To Know!" This loving family of four find they're at the end of their finances, and, ideas for grifting their way from one beautiful (wealthy) world-destination to another. Then, a perfect "grift" almost falls into their laps. But, instead of "taking" from another "mark", they fall in love with they're "target". Through this wonderful, unexpected encounter, they are tested and tried, learning very valuable life-lessons which we share in as we watch this memorable Classic Movie.
I really hope you enjoy this upload :) Please take a second to give a thumbs up or down and don't forget to...
• Subscribe! (then click the "bell" so you know when I upload or add new Oldies for you!)
• Support! Really, even a dollar or 2 will help me. I can give more time to seek, add and upload so you don't "spend" your own time doing this. You can just come to my Playlists, watch and enjoy! Oh! And, Supporting is by clicking on the little "P" for PayPal icon on my home page 1940s picture of my family :D The "P" is in the right, bottom corner. It's layers of security for you when you click on the secure "P"--your info is as safe as it can be--I thank you for caring enough to Support me. I've been here for years, this is my only income since I've become unable to walk stand or sit for only handfuls of minutes at a time due to congenital spinal deformities worsening over time, regardless of two failed hideous surgeries implanting hardware through front and back. So the spinal collapse onto the big nerves down to my feet are severely damaged. Your support, even just through watching the adds helps me! Thank you so much.

Why in the world would 22 people give this movie a thumbs down? Didn't they watch it to the end? It truly was a learning experience, and it has a happy ending. Cynics will say, in life there are never happy endings like in the movies. And I would say, "It's a Movie, for Pete's Sake"! "Try to enjoy life and have an imagination"!

Fairbanks Jr. Was definitely a lady's man. So handsome. Men back then we're sharp and groomed, took pride in themselves. Woman's clothing was glamorous, silks and satin. No hair out of place. I'm a mad hatter, hat's are so classy. Those were the days. Love these movies .

This is a terrific movie, I've watched it at least 5 times and love it just as much as the first time. The learning experience about morality and love really gets to you. I simply love these type of old movies, you can truly see the actors be that person of whom they play the part of and their passion for a career that they love. We are so very lucky to have these old movies to watch, to enjoy, and to also take in a small part of the past, a past that I enjoy so very much. Thank You so very much for doing what you do to bring us these magnificent moments in time.

I absolutely love these old movies and actors, especially Janet Gaynor, one of few who went from silent films to talkies. Her 1927 silent movie, "Sunrise," is a treasure. I would't consider this one a "screwball" comedy, but its warmth, wonderful acting and the story are simply sheer joy-sadly absent from today's films. Truly appreciate you sharing.

A movie that depicts the hidden treasures in the heart of man. Dormant, asleep, but, as Edgar Rice Burroughs once wrote: "Deep within the heart of man dwells the germ of Righteousness." That germ of Righteousness is the sacred, holy Love of God for others. Selfless, pure, astonishing in its beauty and loveliness! The whole meaning and purpose of existence! The Miracle of True, Noble, Divine Love in man! May that seed germinate and blossom forth throughout all mankind, now, and forevermore! Amen.

The only way to get back on their feet was to get roped eventually into the ranks of the factory- and cannon-fodder needed for the coming war. If they survived the war, they'd be paying for it ten times over through their taxes. As for self-improvement/self-enrichment, that's apple-pie-in-the-sky stuff: as someone else said: "money goes to money and poverty goes to the grave".

Rebecca, I can't agree with you more. (And you're so welcome :D--thank you for watching) These Classics--I'd say most, if not all, up through the mid to late 40s (ok, some '50s movies)--did have decent messages. In fact, most were, what people today call, "morality tales". Movies were often "made" from plays, screen plays and books that were well received by viewers and readers. It seems that as morals slid down, so did Hollywood...or... visa-versa :-/ I've been looking online at early 30s-40s magazine covers lately. In many cases you can see how the articles pushed onto the public were obviously used to soften up (or unravel) the safety "lines" and "boundaries" that most families taught their children. And I'm sorry to say, young women seemed to be the target--"lighten up, the women on the screen are doing ______" was almost shouted (in one form or fashion) from the covers of these beautifully illustrated magazines. So, do enjoy these still "moral" movies (stories) Rebecca. These Classics of Hollywood usually offer warnings weaved throughout their stories, as well as almost always offering a way out or back, or forgiveness :))

Charming movie. The clever story of a disingenuous clan of cons slowly confronted by their own mischief. This is a classic with a wonderful cast. By the way, is anyone else struck with the resemblance of this comedic performance by Douglas Fairbanks jr. and Cary Elwes’ as the ‘Dread Pirate Roberts’ in the Princess Bride? Oh, and Paulette Godard (27 or 28 years old here) was so sly, gorgeous and savvy as his wake-up call. Really the whole ensemble gave delightful performances. THE YOUNG IN HEART (1938) director: Richard Wallace, screenplay: Paul Osborn, producer: David O. Selznick starring: Janet Gaynor, Douglas Fairbank jr., Roland Young, Billie Burke, Minnie Dupree, Paulette Goddard, Richard Carlson, Henry Stephenson

Kenneth, my family and I, like you, love the “happy ending✨” films, too. We seek them out! We’ll even, gladly, take an emotionally weighty, complicated story, if it ends with the hero/heroine landing on their feet (so to speak😉). So much the better if we learn a thing or two through them, along the way! Simple (simplistic?) as it may be, life’s just too hard to choose entertainment that doesn’t result in making us feel just a little better by the time we see “The End” up on our television screen👍🏼

I’m so glad you thought it beautiful, carlospita7! This Classic is wonderful in that it shows how 1 person can turn around the lives of many, with genuine Love. It also shows how, in turn, those people changed in such a definite way for good can’t help but effect the lives of more people! It somewhat resembles a tree; from one seed a strong trunk emerges, and from that healthy trunk many branches grow and expand. A beautiful movie, indeed! Thank you for watching this great Classic on my Channel. Your watching my spot-lighted Classics means more than you know :D

Hi Barbara! How fun that you found a new Classic! I love this story. It's sad that it's not played on cable for everyone. I have noticed that TCM is trotting out many more public domain films than they used to (I have some ideas as to what this means...). Maybe this sweet film will be up-coming. I've uploaded several more Classics that are new to me. As soon as I finish gathering info to share on each film they'll be added to my Playlists for you to watch :)) I hope they'll be new discoveries for you, too! Have a great day, Barbara :)

I'm so glad you liked, "The Young at Heart"--it took me by surprise, Annette (I laughed and admittedly needed a Kleenex). It's my pleasure to spotlight such a good story with actors who really seemed to feel the parts they played. Hollywood doesn't make Treasures like this anymore! Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day, Annette :D

David Scott Meier Haha ;D Yes! This Classic has PUPPIES! In addition to being a wonderful story, how can you not watch and L-O-V-E the Pups? Thank you for bringing that FUN attribute of this movie to the forefront! I've noticed, as you have, that dog kennels are quite spectacular in the 30s and early 40s Classic Movies. People, especially the wealthy, often bred dogs and competed in Dog Shows. The more money you had, the more elaborate your pooch's housing could be. They often hired a person just to oversee and care for their dogs! The wealthy were also able to pay for bringing their pampered pups with them when they traveled. Furry friends were noticeably well cared for in most early Classic Movies, indeed!
