Watch as we tackle a very unique vehicle, a 1940 Ford CMP (Canadian Military Pattern). This project was very important to Jeff to get completed.
We were very honored to be able to resurrect a piece of Canadian Military history.
This video was dedicated in memory of Jeff's father-in-law, Master Warrant Officer Hubert Quinlan who unfortunately passed away before we could get this video completed. He was however, following this project, and was very impressed by Jeff's passionate dedication to the completion of this war time relic.
A special thanks to Brent @Halfass Kustoms for all of his support in helping to diagnose some of the issues that we had along the way.

Sorry for your loss. Keep the memory alive when you work on trucks like that one. I volunteer with a museum, and I'm responsible for an CMP 11cab just like that one. Will you be doing a follow up video when it's time to work on the brakes?

Great old truck, those 6 volt systems definitely need heavy gauge wires and good grounds. Glad to see it running again. I'm lazy so I usually just take gas tanks to a rad shop and let them deal with cleaning it.

Love CMP’s got an Aussie built one myself great to work on great fun to drive. What you’ve got there is one of the very first ones a Cab 11 Chev & Ford very quickly worked out that the hood wasn’t good enough and moved on to the Cab 12 which gave better access to the engine with a proper hinged hood but that didn’t last very long either before they moved on to the Cab 13 which had a much larger redesigned cab.

If you can get ahold of some caustic soda, it cleans gas tanks well, pretty sketchy stuff to handle though.

We are definitely going to get it clean one way or another. Thanks for the suggestion.

I remember Vice Grip.Garage did something with a fuel tank to clean it out . Not sure if it was the big white Cadillac or what. You might be able to see what he did on his channel.

I would drop a gallon of gas in, and 1/2 gallon of acetone and put it in the back of a puckup and cruise around. The 27 studebaker i did the tank in, there was 2” of solidified muck. Acetone cut that goo the best out of everything. Dont let someone tell you av gas will work. After a couple week soak it came out clear. Didnt touch it. Burned the gas in my tractor. Damn, that buggy purrs. Grounds are critical. Heres clear proof. Love the sound of them gears, double clutching is a must! Brakes? Youu dont need no brakes!!

You would probably be better off to see if can find another tank similar to the dimensions of that one or take that somewhere and have somebody build an aluminum one? I don’t know? Just my thoughts. Course you fellars have already got something else in mind, and that’s cool too!

The CMP despite being called a Canadian military pattern was actually designed on British specifications.
@jonmce1
@jonmce1 Год назад
Can't prove it true, but the cab over design according to one source was so they could get more on a ship. Canada supplied half the trucks to the commonwealth/empire during the war and at that time most of the empire was right hand drive.
