I picked up this awesome early 1940's Chevrolet CMP, Canadian Military Pattern Army truck, either a model 11 or 12 i'm not sure. It has a Chev 261 engine in it and doesnt run yet - last time it ran was 26 years ago.
I'll be rebuilding it so let's see how it turns out!

Louie that's such a cool truck! I've never seen one of these before. Looks like it would be great for beating around the woods up on your property! Looking forward to seeing more of it

That thing is sick! It would look crazy cool with the jet engine in the back when you do take it places. Hope to see more videos about this truck

Those old type "shocks" are pretty cool. They are probably oil filled units that dampen the springs. Lots of times you see those cut off and replaced

"Just don't see them around." (?) Obviously you are not hanging around the right people. What you have is a Number 11 Cab Chevy C15 (3/4 ton 4X4) CMP probably 1941. Those are the correct headlights. Brian Asbury (CMP parts & MVPA member) told me that these headlights were originally fitted with the small bulbs, as are earlier GM cars. this surprised me as sealed beam headlights were standard by 1941. According to Brian, GM managed to talk the Canadian government into accepting them with the older style heal lamp bulbs. Hopefully GM gave them a discount while unloading stock piles of the now outdated bulbs. Last I heard, Brian may still have the original side marker & tail lights. Those vents are for cooling the cab's occupants, not the motor. It can get quite warm inside these even in cool weather without the canvas side windows in place as you are virtually sitting alongside the engine. Those are shocks, almost all cars prior to 1940 had that style of (knee) shock absorber. That old funnel may be a wartime original. The grab handle is for the co-driver to grab onto (his seat is missing) while bumping over rough ground. I added a handle to the dash for him as mine was missing and they original just gets in the way. I was wondering what the hydraulic pump was for - somebody made it into a dump truck. Should be two fuel tanks. As to tire replacement; originally the tires would be 9.25X16. I recommend getting the new radial 10.50-16 directional tires as used on C30's. The larger tires look better on a C15, and do make the truck run slightly faster. Why someone welded on the raised door jams is beyond me - just makes it even more difficult to climb in. Check out my C30: 1941 Chevrolet Goes to War Parts I & II on RU-vid. It is for sale.

Well I used to see them in every parking lot with a plow on them when I was a kid - now we don't see them around like that.

Louie quote of the day "Ya I don't wanna wreck it, I don't wanna do anything stupid to it... But I am gonna put the jet motor on the back, the jet engine on it when I need to transport somewhere" LMFAO Yea you'll be transporting alright, with the jet engine on it, right into an early grave :) I love the thing, but being in the insane humid ontario, i''d blast it or phosphoric acid wash or something. or just oil the entire thing lol

ther is alot of guys here locally in the gilbert (east valley area in Pheonix arizona) that collect, buy & sell esp all kinds of parts to those old military and civilian vehicles from ur same era..I always see listings on the phx-Craigslist for the many different parts they sellin & since we're in a dry desert its easy to find parts with no rust

Cab 11. It has the small bonnet cover. The Cab 12s had the "alligator" bonnet that split the grill to increase access.

This truck has a wind screen that leans back at the top. The later models , the wind screen leans forward at the top I believe it was to do with preventing the sun reflecting off the screen ; making harder to see from the air.

You could mount shocks on it [probably help the ride]. Just need to put the bracket in the right spot and mounts overall. Not too tough to do. The old hotrod guys do it all the time with T-buckets and model A hotrods... 30's Chevy's.

almost looks like a really old Unimog. Its not though with the taper hood and the air vent on the side gives it away as an early British 1940's CMP (canadian military pattern) 3 ton. A Chevrolet C8a powered or might be a Ford powered model. It has a silver or bow tie or gold ford oval right at the top of the middle of the grille. When I was growing up in early 70's the family who bought our house, that guy had a Chevy powered CMP parked in the yard till I was in high school. Never knew what happened to it, been gone for 30+ years. Its more ugly than homemade sin. haha im going to say its a 1941

whooo, awsome @powermodz !! I'm also a cruiser guy, glad to hear you have the bug too. what cruisers have you done? are you on mud? I'm doing a HJ61 now. I took on a unimog project, way worse than that, got on the backburner. cheers from Norway!

I think that is a pretty early monkey face chev blitz , I have the later type , for some reason the monkey faced blitz wasn't liked by the Australian army in WW2 something about the shape Deflecting shrapnel or lack of it .R
