This video is the second of four. It's about pressing in new cutterhead bearings. The jointer is some variation of a 6" Delta Milwaukee, model 37-207. This is a very common machine to find on the second-hand market. This video series was designed to include all the information that I would have liked to know before restoring one. Other videos:

●Replacement Bearings (without extended race):
1) Front side (smaller one):
15mm/35mm/13mm (Inside diameter/Outside diameter/Width).
Search using the following title. “PGN (2 Pack) 6202-2RS Bearing Lubricated Chrome
Steel Sealed Ball Bearings 15x35x11mm with Rubber Seal & High RPM Support ”
2) Back/pulley side (bigger one):
17mm/40mm/13mm (Inside diameter/Outside diameter/Width).
Search using the following title. “PGN (2 Pack) 6203-2RS Bearing Lubricated Chrome
Steel Sealed Ball Bearings 17x40x12mm with Rubber Seal & High RPM Support”
●Replacement Knives:
POWERTEC 6 Inch Jointer Blades for Delta 37-190 37-195 37-205 37-220 37-275X Jointer, Replacement for 37-658 Jointer Knives, Set of 3 (148032)
●Replacement Set-screws:
These are found throughout the machine. Check local hardware store first. They have a ¼-28 thread pattern; that means the threads were cut from ¼" rod, and they're spaced at 28 threads per inch.
●Diamond Sharpening Plates:
I will not provide free advertisements here, but simply search for "Diamond 5 Pcs Knife Sharpening Stone," and try not to spend more than 15 bucks. If you're shopping on the 'big A,' save the item to your watch list (without buying it), and then watch as the price magically drops over the next day or two. This is called 'dynamic pricing,' also known as scalping. You're welcome. I'm one of the good guys, I swear. You should also be thanking me for not putting mid-roll ads in this video, but who's counting?
●DELTA MILWAUKEE operating and maintenance instructions

What's the intended benefit of extended race bearings?
@pocket83squared
@pocket83squared 5 месяцев назад
Hmm. I have no idea. Perhaps to provide a little more room (between the bearing and the cutterhead), for shavings to eject? If that space were to become packed with pulp, the area would surely rust sooner.

Excellent video, sir! Thank you so much for making and sharing it! I found it after I jumped into a restoration on a 4" Delta jointer of almost exactly the same vintage. Never done anything like this before. The bearings on mine are also shot. I see your old ones had to be seriously coaxed to come off the cutter head shaft. Any tips for others trying to remove the old bearings? Right now I'm thinking of buying some plastic felling wedges from TSC and cutting them to try to wedge the bearings off... penetrating oil... time... heat (can't think of a good way to heat the inner race but NOT the shaft)...? Thank you again!

This was part of a series, so there were other tips throughout, but off the top of my head~ Use a penetrating oil (and give it some time) to help. You'll need a small (around 3") gear-puller to remove them from the shaft. Compressed air can help remove the bearings from their cup. Patience is key. Penetrating oil takes time, sometimes even a full day. Apply some, add tension with the puller, and then walk away; there will be other things to work on. Take a moment to use a sharpened coat-hanger to clean and scrape around all of the bearings to encourage the fluid to seep in. Keep it wet. One way or another, you'll wear it down eventually. (Try to) resort to using a torch only as an absolute last resort. The penetration fluid I use is a 50/50 mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Good luck!

@@pocket83squared Awesome! Thank you so much! Yes, giving the oil time is always good. Having done that, I made some wedges out of oak but they snapped toot sweet. Thankfully, the cups I already got off without too much trouble... Didn't know about the puller! I'll definitely try that out! And great thought about trying to clear the base of the race so the oil can get it. I'll keep at it! Again, thank you SO much!

No problem. I understand that most European countries now have difficulty understanding the whole half-of-a-half thing. Ten is, after all, the one True basis for _all_ numerical systems by divine right, right? Half of it is five, and half of that is two-point-five; a perfect poetry, like the harmony of the spheres. It is not only your liberty-but also your duty-to refuse to learn conversions.
