The US Springfield 22 caliber training rifle was born in 1922 with the introduction of the US Springfield Model 1922 training rifle. After significant improvements of reliability, accuracy, and standardization of parts the US Springfield M1922 was created in 1925 and then the M2 in 1933 and production continued until 1942. By 1942 the Department of War (now the Department of Defense) determined that it was too expensive to continue production of these handmade training rifles when private industry could produce less expensive training rifles. Never again would a US government run, and made, weapon for our armed forces be made. From now on, all weapons for our troops would be made via contract by private corporations. My M2 rifle was made towards the end of production and incorporates all the improvements deemed necessary. These high quality, handmade rifles are in high demand by today's collectors and those who appreciate such weapons.

What a lovely rifle Ken! It looks like it has been very well cared for and maintained, which I know it has.

Thank you for watching. Since these rifles were hand made at the US Springfield arsenal and were always expensive, most of them have been well cared for over the years. Mine came out of a private collection that was being liquidated.

Mornin' Ken. Not too much of a gun fan here, but it's always nice to be out in your woods. I was surprised that gun doesn't kick like I remember from my brother's using one in my childhood. I guess they were shot guns and not rifles. Good video! Thanks for sharing.

I appreciate you watching and your comments. Since it is a 22 LR and a heavy rifle it does not have any kick. I've been shooting since I was 10 years old and got into competition shooting during high school and college. In Viginia, most high schools had varsity rifle teams and I "lettered" in competition riflery. Now, you want to see something kick, watch my video on my WWII vintage Soviet PU sniper.
