The Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne, often abbreviated to MAS ("Saint-Étienne Weapons Factory" in English) was a French state-owned weapons manufacturer in the town of Saint-Étienne, Loire. In April of 1945 the First French Army captured the Mauser Weapons Factory in Obendorf Germany. This included many weapons parts, factory workers and management. The French had admired the German KKK-W 22LR caliber training rifle for German troops. Under French direction, the captured Mauser workers assembled a French version of the KKK-W called the MAS45A. This video describes the history of the MAS45 and demonstrates how well constructed they are. The rifle in this video is a rare first version MAS45A Mauser Bannered rifle made in late 1945.
