Devastating to see a tank like that used for target practice. They could have least have picked a shit tank lol like the chieftain ;-) great video by the way
@514thmick
@514thmick 8 лет назад
It was probably put on the target ranges in the 1960/70's, it was lucky really as most tanks from that era were cut up for scrap metal by the 1990's

Thanks, that's the look we were trying for, small hit on the front followed by a second big explosion inside.

I saw this tank this year and it's only used for film and reenactment to give a realistic view of a tank being destroyed!

Would like to see this restored to display condition even if not running though with so many Sherman parts still around and resto mods getting it running doesnt seem impossible.

Wasn’t this originally just a troop carrier? No turret? Just to carry individuals?
@ReFuGeEsPrAyEr
@ReFuGeEsPrAyEr 5 лет назад
Other way around. The Ram 2 never saw combat as a fighting tank due to being under gunned with the 57mm. So the Canadian's pulled the turret and designated it the kangaroo, similar to the Sexton kangaroo as well. Although turreted rams with fake guns were used as command vehicles

Mick Wilson not forgetting that this type of hull isn't easy to find in great condition and that you would basically need to remake all of the tank interior.

It doesn't help the vehicle. Flames will damage the armor's quality. Thus degrading the overall integrity of the vehicle.
@514thmick
@514thmick 7 лет назад
No they wont, "Flames will damage the armor's quality" do you know how thick the armor is, its not as thick as you lol
@peterson7082
@peterson7082 7 лет назад
+Mick Wilson Not to a major extent. But certainly over time. It doesn't matter how thick the armor is heat will screw around with the structure of atoms, and ruin the heat treating.
@514thmick
@514thmick 7 лет назад
There is no way that petrol burning in there for a few moments is going to heat that chunk of metal hull, its 4” think in places, we had trouble cutting it with a gas axe when removing the transmission. Also did you see the damage the tank had had before, the heat the British army had fired into it in the past I am sure the small petrol fire will not add to any damage.

No wonder why there's a few of our ww2 tank relics are a few now like the sherman only a few dozens left. Most of them you seen in the movie about the Late 50's 60's 70's and 80's. Most of them actually got destroyed meanwhile others get scrapped. Why are you doing this destroying a piece of artifact that is so important. Just because there obsolete it doesn't mean we can't get rid of them wrecklessly and carelessness. You're breaking the hearts of our great grandfather!!!! ;(

It's unfortunate, but it wasn't until the 1970s & 1980s that WW2 weapons were seen as something historic to be saved. Nearly everyone considered them as nothing more than scrap metal. So few were saved. In fact, all of the captured foreign equipment at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, mostly German, was scheduled to be scrapped in the late 1940s/ early 1950s. They were only saved because an officer saw their historic value and saved them for educational purposes.
