I'm sure I missed a few years in there since I'm not totally sure what all the years and models are that this toploader 3 speed comes in. But today we're finally getting to replace the synchronizers that came apart in Charlotte, NC last year. Lots of help from Chance on this one. This was basically the process we went through to put in the new ones.

most manual transmissions have what's called a laygear and layshaft which may ride on a series of needle bearings. pulling the shaft will release the bearings. reassembly involves a tedious process that involves holding those bearings in position (usually with heavy grease) while inserting various other parts. it's always a hassle. there are instruction manuals that explain, clearly, how to do it.

Synchros! What a luxury! My 49 had the non-sychro 4 speed. It was a great anti-theft device but it finally wore out and I put in a T-5. Huge improvement. I taught the grandkids to drive with the non-synchro transmission, and they're probably the only one of their friends who can row a manual transmission properly.

"dog" can be a noun. but it can also be a verb. as a verb it means "to hunt", "to follow closely" and "to track".

Is it possible to purchase a rebuilt transmission reasonably?

It's about $1200. I got this one supposedly rebuild with only 500 miles on it but I feel like this video shows it wasn't the truth. I only ran it in Edna for about two months. I may pull the worm gear for the speedometer and try to swap it onto the transmission thats in Edna now, (the one Chance and I rebuilt) maybe we will do a video trying to swap it without pulling the transmission out of the truck. Should be fun lol

He's a nice guy. I met him when he came into Carolina Driveline filming an episode for his Trans AM on his @3BB channel. He was nice enough to give us a shout out

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Ford F1 transmission. Hope you get all the issues resolved soon. I too am having issues with my 1952 Ford F1. It comes out of 2nd gear when coming to a stop sign or going over a speed bump. (all other gears work perfect) I was told the synchro gear needs replacing. So for now, I hold the stick in 2nd gear position and it will stay in 2nd gear. Until it becomes a more serious issue I will continue to drive the truck. However, when it does become time to change transmission, where do you suggest I buy a rebuilt one? Or should I take it to my local transmission shop? Any suggestions will be helpful, thank you.
