I have seen so many that thread the other way. Mine threads just like yours. Boy was that confusing when I first got it. But the guy that works on my many machines told me how to thread it.
Oh, yes! Old wiring is scary! I had my mother's family's 1930 something machine for a while and I never even plugged it in. The wiring was soft, looking for a problem. I wish I had room for her... years before, she was a delightful machine - although the girls in the family were upset when he traded in the well-loved treadle. I learned to be cautious about wiring when I plugged in my dad's old movie projector and the house went dark - twice.
This is July 23, 2018, a dear friend of mine gave me her 15-91 this past weekend! Martha has had this machine since she was 12 yrs old and is now 81. Since I just got home from there place in TN, haven't got it set up yet. OH! she also gave me the original cabinet. After watching several video's, I hopefully will get to use her tomorrow.
This is a beautiful sewing machine. My neighbor so happen to give me a sewing machine because I told her back in the day I use to love sewing. I use to make EVERYTHING for me and my mom and I loved it. I love sewing, so I decided to see if it works..and truly it works....I love it and find out that I have a 1948 Singer 15-91 Sewing Machine..and to see this video is simply AWESOME!!! The only thing that puzzled me was where to put the thread and I see from your video, it sits on the top...and as I look at it...there is a hole on top of the machine, but nothing int he hole to hold the thread, so where can I go to get something to hold the thread? Please respond. I appreciate you showing this video, you have given me so much info on this vintage sewing machine and I just love it. I can't wait to get back to sewing. Please help me out on how to put something on the top, so the thread will stand steadily. Thanx again!
i got one just like it from Asheville 2 weeks ago and the wiring is bad on her too needs new plug and wires looks just like your made 1947 sept 25th it has some dings in the paint but looks good decals are in good shape too any hints to using her will be awesome
Hey Bonnie! I just got the same machine and i am new to sewing! going to be making cosplay stuff, so excited. i followed the instructions for threadding, and finally got the bobber to release and send up the string through the hole, but i think there is an issue with it as when i go to sew, it all bunches up at the botttom and i have to cut it all free and clean out the mess in the bobbin housing. ive watched a grip of videos.. anyway.. any first timer help, what tension should be set at, etc..(4-5) right now. i feel like i am doing it right, it stiches maybe once then... pushes the fabric, but no stitch... any assistance for a 40 year old?
Hi Bonnie. I am going to go pick up a machine and cabinet just like this on Saturday. I think the wiring and pedal are going to need replaced as well. Can you please tell me where I can purchase the cord and pedal assembly like you have? Was it a difficult replacement?
I have come into the possession of a baby just like this. I don't understand why it won't give me a pretty stitches? I have followed all the directions you gave, checked everything. This is my 1st machine, older than I. So anything will help. Ugh!
