Man I bet if you could see under that paint, that it’s bad body work as well. She got the right guy to fix it but man o man that’s a serious job you have ahead of you.
There is no way that truck would be considered finished in any stretch of the imagination. The taking apart 'finished' work to be able to repair and rebuild the car to a workable state is crazy. Do look forward to seeing this one move forward. Be safe and stay well.
Unfortunate that there are “professional” shops out there doing this level of work but unfortunately I think it’s not too uncommon. And I’m sure she paid a decent amount for the work that’s been done. I hope you’re able to get her fixed up and bring the truck up to a level that makes the owner happy with it.
For all the other customers that go or have been to that shop I hope this was an isolated incident. She has a substantial amount of money in this build, I honestly feel bad for her. I’ll do all I can to make it right and safe.
I'd swear the same shop did my cousins 55. I know it's not but same amateur hack work. The steel brake line directly to the axle is without question, the STUPIDEST thing I've ever seen. Lol. Rubber fuel line is what burned up a Trans Am from another hack channel. I'd use panel bond on the rocker to cab corner and use it as seam sealer in the jambs. Both sides if you have access. This is still hackery but better than nothing. The only reason I'd recommend the panel bond instead of welding is because it's painted. Most new cars are put together with panel bond. Personally, I'd readjust doors, grind away paint in jambs/rockers, and weld that stuff. Just back tape the jams and respray. This would fix scratches on hinges and bolts. I know you already know what to do because it's not you're first rodeo. Without question the person that built that truck is an absolute amateur. This type of crap is what causes accidents, injury, and/or death. I see a lawsuit there.
It’s a big sad mess and the more I mess with it the more surprises I find. She has someone that’s going to take care of the paint and body repairs. There is a lawsuit already in progress.
I'm almost certain that truck was sitting at A3 auto restoration when I took my truck to that shop because the owner showed it off to me as one of the projects he was working on. I imagine there aren't many pink trucks like that sitting around. I also believe that shop did a bad job on what I had done to my truck. "Professional" shop but my experience was pretty bad with communication, the amount of time it took to complete (7-8 months), and issues with shops ability to keep their mechanics and owner asking for money to be able to pay his guys. Doesn't surprise me to see this truck in somebody else's hands to fix the issues.
It’s hard to not recognize this one. Another guy left a comment on this video and another that recognized it as well. Iam going to put 100% into it to make it at right as I possibly can. Did you get your truck sorted out?
@LeftForDeadGarage I didn't have near the amount of work done that this project is including. Basically just pulled the motor out, dressed the engine bay, painted block, and switched to an edelbrock carb and installed headers. Nothing too major but the price of $8000+ and seeing the quality of work afterwards along with a couple more things basically just served as a good lesson learned on my part since it was my first dive into my project of restoring my truck. Felt pretty dumb after but I'll be sure to do my research next time.
Oh wow $8k seems extremely high for what you listed being done. I hate to hear stories like I’ve heard, things like this is what pushes folks away from the hobby. If there’s anything I can help you with then please reach out to me on here or through the Left For Dead Garage facebook page. Thanks for watching
I’m sorry but that truck was not ready for paint. No matter how careful you are, it will need paint in the end. Man I sure hate it for the owner and for you
I'd strip it to bare metal and let nature have its way with the finish. When I like the work, seal it in with a clear satin finish. Then enjoy the hell out of it.
