So far mine has been trouble free. In volume 49 I adjust the advance curve by changing out the springs. VAST performance improvement. Thanks for watching Larry

@@Volfandt hi image I'm enjoying your Channel I have a question what cap and rotors and vacuum advance did they use are they GM so I can go buy it at the store if I need it I can't seem to find it anywhere thanks

@@Oldcarnut63 The dist they sent me had an OEM GM cap and rotor. I'm not sure on the vacuum advance but I believe it is also OEM GM. The documentation that comes with the dist lists the GM OEM replacement parts by GM's part numbers. The paperwork is very detailed. Good luck

@@Oldcarnut63 This is the info they provided me: "We use our own PBT molded distributor cap and rotor, but its modeled after GM components. Auto parts stores carry standard motor Cap pn # DR-422 and rotor pn # DR-311 which are completely compatible." Pertronix part number's on pg 3 are: Replacement 6 cyl cap & rotor: P/N606700 Vacuum adv P/N D701700 The dist cap looks like a std pre-HEI cap and the rotor looks like a std HEI rotor. I haven't researched the vac adv but based on the distributors size I'd guess it's a pre HEI adv unit. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I have a 1955 Chevy 3100 series 1, with 12v conversion. I purchased and installed the Pertronix 1168LS. I removed ballast resistor and used the normal coil. If you are not good with points, then this is the way to go. Been installed for a year. She cranks right up and runs great. I forgot to add, she is running the original stock 235

A while back you and the Mrs.on a cruise had some minor problem, you asked folks to figger out what it was.... I cannot find the episode where you gave the answer.... I guessed thought it was the choke-------------------------? I have a 1952 -- 3600 with a 261..

The Pertronix distributor I installed was an evaluation model that they are developing for the 216,235 & 261 engines. They contacted me to install and run it. Based on how well it's working out for me I expect they'll be offering it soon if not already. It's the Flamethrower dist with the Igniter II module. Check out their web page and /or contact them for more info.

The distributor I installed was an evaluation model and not a regular offer yet. Based on how well it's performing I imagine they'll be offering it soon. Heres a contact for Pertroinx: pertronixbrands.com/pages/contact-us Give them a call to see if they're ready to market it and tell them Volfandt sent ya.

Have you looked into 355 gears to up your top cruising speed?
@pappabob29
@pappabob29 4 года назад
The first series 1955 Chevy pickups had the same body style as yours (except the grill and one piece windshield) but had a open driveshaft. If you could score one of those transmissions and rear ends, it would probably bolt in and might have better "freeway" gears. Of course, you could also adapt a S-10 "overdrive" transmission and late model diff. ???? Could lead to lots more videos !! 👍👍👍

Here is an article about keepin old driveline but upgrading the pinion set www.hotrod.com/articles/1003clt-chevs-of-the-40s-3-55-1-ring-and-pinion-swap/
@Volfandt
@Volfandt 4 года назад
Yes I have. Theres several aftermarket providers that still carry the full kit (ring & pinion gears, bearings, bushings, spacers etc., and theres some that only carry the gears but you can find the other parts from different sources. It's definitely doable and will get these old trucks interstate capable. I've thought long and hard and since I've got the GMC with it's late model drivetrain I've put a Chevy swap to the 3:55 rear gears on the way-back burner. It's rare I go over 50-55 except to pass and it'll run all day at those speeds. Good thought Tom.

Ran ours for eight years. Then it acted up The first time I thought the fuel filter was plugged up Then the second time after a 60 mile round trip stoped again the tank was on 3/4 stoped again. The last time idling in the driveway stoped again. I change out the coil Quit again I called Pentronics I was told I had a grounding problumn We will see after tomorrow when I install a ground strap I’m running a 1958 261 out of a school bus.
@Volfandt

Those intermittent problems are the worst. A bad ground could definitely be the cause. I believe the module gets it's ground through the distributor to engine connection. Hopefully that separate ground will do the trick. Good luck. Dave
