As a member of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, I appreciate your unabashed enthusiasm for this car. We Hudsonites are extremely loyal, so it doesn't surprise me a bit that the owner drives this automobile as his main car. You should know, though, that there is no wood in the car. The wood-grain was painted onto the metal panels at the factory, and they did excellent work; clearly, it fooled you even decades after that fact! The Commodore rivaled Cadillac in the luxury car market in its day.

In 1949, Cadillac was far down the line in luxury automobiles. Hudson, packard, Lincoln "who was still an independent at the time". Nash, and Pontiac " before GM baught them out". And Desoto were all ahead of cadalliac at the time. And cadalliac is not a Cadillac of the by gone era. GM Baught out a failing cadalliac.

@@aaronlovell6026 GM bought out the Cadillac Motor Company in 1912. The early Cad was not a luxury car, it was an upper medium priced car. That started to change with Cadillac's introduction of the electric starting motor, and the change was complete when Cadillac introduced their first V8 in 1915. From then on, Cads were exclusively luxury cars. The Packard was one of the "Three Ps" - Packard, Pierce-Arrow, and Peerless. These three were our top luxury cars, arguably the WORLD'S top luxury cars. Nash was never part of GM. The DeSoto was a nice car, but it was never a true luxury car, and didn't come out until the 1929 model year. The Pontiac was not bought out by GM, GM introduced the Pontiac in about 1926 as Oakland's lower-priced companion. GM bought the Oakland division in about 1910, well before the Pontiac came into being.

Actually, Hudson did quite well for 1949. According to the book, "Cars of the 1940's," by the Editors of Consumer Guide, Hudson built 142, 462 cars in '49 ranking it 11th in production which was just ahead of Chrysler for that year. Hudson and Nash merged in 1954 creating American Motors Corporation. AMC continued to make Hudsons using Nash bodies (what some called a "Hash") from 1955 to '57. AMC discontinued making Hudsons and Nashes for 1958 concentrating on Rambler production instead.

This is the top of luxury car in 1949.In The movie driving Mrs Daisy, the car was a 1948 Hudson. The 1949 was just like the 1948. They only made 2 years like this 1948 and 49.

The 48 and 49 Hudsons were indeed identical, but the same basic car continued to be made through 1953, with a face lifted version for 1954, it's last year.

It was a '49 Hudson that Jack Kerouac and Neil Cassady took "on the road".

No, I don't, but I believe he's a local. I made this video at a weekly car meet-up in Loveland. This was in 2017 though.
