1949 John Deere Model R - First Start 

I thank you sir for showing the people the right way to start a John Deere 2cly. Diesel with a Cranking engine! You did a excellent job!!! 👍

for me personally a VERY excellant video! to be concise two Uncles they were brothers long gone now owned a model R on their dairy in the 1960s. I just thought the world I was just awed over that tractor I still am! so thats what everything "under the hood " looks like how starting all happens! THANK YOU for sharing!

SO grateful and excited to have your reply!! SO starting the "R: is rather simple then??? start the gas pony engine, allow 2 to 5 minutes for warmth THEN pull both the starting levers together, watch the oil pressure gauge for the diesel when the diesel gauge reads the correct pressure release the compression lever then reach and push the throttle lever diesel engine should start???! have always wonderd this!!!

The Model R has these gauges: Ammeter, Diesel engine oil pressure, Diesel engine temperature and hour meter. So there's no special gauge that shows when to start the diesel engine. It takes 3 or 4 minutes to warm the air intake up and then you let the diesel engine turn over until it has full oil pressure (gauge). Then release the decompression lever until it fires up.

Tip top, kann ich mich auch für begeistern! und wie immer hat Lanz 5016 recht: als nächstes ist der Deckenbalken dran. (oder verputzen der ehemaligen Fensteröffnungen) lol

are there gauges to watch to know when the pony starter engine is warmed up enough to engage it to the diesel, THEN are there gauges to know when the diesel oil pressure is full and the diesel cylinders are warmed enough to operate the levers and throttle?? are there gauges??? THANK YOU

@AJWindmeyer..... That's a big No.... The pony motor burnt Gasoline, The main engine burnt Diesel fuel....

Well, I think you may have a clogged injector or something. My model R fires right up, without all of the warming up and waiting.

Wo bekommt man den in Deutschland so große und hübsche 2-Zylinder Diesel her?? Der frisst ja mein 11er Deutz zum Frühstück :) gab es die 2 Zylinder JD den auch in Europa? Gruß Wille
