When you think about it, it's a good thing all those vintage cards got thrown into the trash because that's why they are rare. If all those cards didn't get thrown out they wouldn't be worth as much. Has anyone ever found out how many Mickey Mantle Rookies were even made? Vs how many are left?
Hi Mike, Just a great video with a wonderful story! To actually pull a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle is a dream come true. This is one of the best stories I have ever heard. Thank you for your continuing professionalism and unique story telling! Much respect, Peter
As a kid back in the 70's I collected Baseball and Football cards. When I moved away my Mom gave the cards to a cousin. About 15 years ago at a family get together I told how bummed I was not to have those cards. a few weeks later my sister came to my house carrying a large box. I

I know I sure could go for some pasteurized process cheese food right now! That Mantle is a really Gouda card that I’m sure will go for quite a bit of cheddar!
Was cleaning out my uncle's hoarder house last month after his passing, I remember him saying decades ago that he had misplaced an old Mantle somewhere (never stated the year). Of course within 15 minutes of cleaning I found a box with a few cards including about fifteen 52 high series cards (no Mantle). The next three days of my stay, while I was cleaning I was searching as hard as I could to turn that damn thing up but never did. Probably lost to time, but I'll be damned if finding those other cards doesn't make me think about going back there and going through every inch of that place.
@@JunkWaxHero 19 hour drive to the middle of Canada, tenants down here behind on rent, but I plan/hope to make one more run to help clean out his place, just an overwhelming amount of stuff up there. Salt of the earth depression era farmer, so he saved everything. I'd love to be able to have one of these stories.
@@JunkWaxHero Didn't take it that way at all. Thanks for the condolences. Such weird stuff, took some baseball cubes that he had random Spalding Canada baseballs in (sadly left their original boxes behind). Was wondering why he kept unsigned baseballs, now looking at the history of Spalding, they may be relatively old and I have a contact name for Spalding Canada. Kicking myself for not taking the original boxes, was just gonna toss em in with my nephews baseballs till I started thinking about it more (not that they will have tremendous value).
Those high number cards are still very valuable no matter who the players are. Depending on the condition of course. The Jackie Robinson and Ed Matthews are two extremely valuable high number cards. It's a bummer you couldn't find the Mantle, though.
