Our visit to the Crawford Auto Museum with a private showing from John Lutsch continues with this 1953 Triumph Trophy. This motorcycle was a staple of flat track racing back in the day, and is still a great example of the makeup of flat track bikes today. It's our Ride of the Week!

I have a 1949 Trophy which uses the ‘square barrel’ motor which you correctly state was developed by Triumph during WW2 as the power source for a portable generator set used at the airfields to provide shore power for the Lancasters and other planes.

I own a 53 Trophy. Those early bikes have AM on the barrel. That stands for Air Ministry. Only the early competition bikes used that all alloy engine. It was from the Lancaster bombers of ww2 vintage and was the generator starter I believe.
