First off, I love the 40. Secondly, I'm looking for ways to convince my Judi I need one. lol. We do need, and have room for a garden, 1/2 to 1 acre. But when I do get one, a 40 or similar model, I appreciate your maintenance videos. Thank you and thank you for the blessings after each video.

You want your plow level for the first round. After that round, when you start running with right side tires in a furrow, you want to adjust plow so its level when tractor is leaning to the right

That's a beautiful tractor you have there! My Grandfather had a John Deere M that looked almost identical but may have been one size smaller than yours. I really don't know the difference. Good luck with your gardens and your awesome looking tractor! : )

The M was the predecessor to to the 40 and was basically the same size.

Old farm boy here. Grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York. It’s more the plow itself. Not really anything you are doing wrong, except you didn’t have anyone properly explain plow set up and operation to you. Yes you start out with them pulling level, but your share points should be pointed down, the tail of your plows should be about 1 1/2-2” ( 2-3 finger widths is close enough) off a level surface not flat like yours was. Then after your first furrow you need to compensate for your right hand wheels being in the furrow by tilting it back to the left so it’s level when the tractor is in the furrow. I had the same setup of plow and disc as you have given to me along with a 40 that had set under a shed for several years shortly after I moved to Oklahoma 22years ago. A neighbor a few miles away bought the place they were sitting rotting away at and just wanted to get rid of them to have the shed cleaned out. Those plows are too big and cumbersome and lack coulters and if you get them to run deep enough to actually turn a furrow you overpower the tractor. I used mine once and decided they were such trash that I took them to the local farm auction and then started scrounging through local scrapyards, old farms and local auctions until I got lucky and found a proper mounted 2 bottom 2 way 14” plow and original JD disc for the 40 that was perfect for doing the garden up. Your 40 is just stunning by the way. I wish I would have been able to find the time to make my 40 look that good, but up till I sold my place last year, it never stood still long enough to get anything done except a couple small mechanical repairs to get it running the first time and general maintenance. I used mine for everything. Mowing the yard, mowing, raking and bailing with a compact square bailer the hay out of my 80acre field. Plowing my giant garden and all the neighbors gardens, hauling firewood, running a buzz saw and a wood splitter etc.
