Nice car! I'd leave 6V be. My 53 dodge b4b runs fine on 6V. I had same acceleration problem, idled fine but wouldn't rev. Found both timing and vacuum problems. Once corrected it runs fine. How's your pilothouse project going?
I did check for vacuum leaks and the timing is at 6 degrees before TDC. Project pilothouse hasn't been going as well as I would like due to time and money. I will be switching gears from working on the engine, due to a damaged crank and start doing some body work soon. Hopefully I'll have a video out on Project Pilothouse in a couple of weeks. Thank you for the comment!
When I loose a tool or nut/bolt in the shop it always happens at the worst time. If found the best solution is to start cleaning up the stuff I should have put away a while ago. In the process of cleaning I always find the missing part. Kind of like what your doing. You’re changing out consumable items like plugs ect. If it needs doing regardless, do it. Then you’ll eliminate “could be” issues. I suspect even after all the routine maintenance items are swapped you’ll find the carb isn’t suited for that engine. How many cfm was the original and what’s the Holley?
Thank you for the comment. I am planning on replacing the sparkplugs and wires and I have already replaced the cap, rotor and points. I have been wondering if the carb is too small as it is only 465 CFM. However, the Holley 2280 carburetor is used on the Mopar 318 engines. Regardless, I will be purchasing an original Cater carb through Kanter shortly.
