adding 1 ounce of two stroke oil per 5 gallons of gasoline will keep these platinum engines running forever and they will not use any oil. I have a YT3000 that runs like its been charmed since 2018. I bought the machine used for 200.00
@@GaryAhl see I have a 1954 c1-b6 I been getting running it sat since 83 so after all the getting the engine lined out I been trying to find the filter for it. It’s like 6”x 4” and it’s located on the drivers side fender. Kinda looks like a soup can with holes is that what that filter looks like
I’m not sure about that filter but I recommend you join the group “Dodge Pilothouse Era Truck Club” on Facebook and ask the question there. A gentleman named Eric Bannerman moderates the group and is extremely knowledgeable about these trucks. Good chance he may be able to help you.
It happened to me when I got home, back window wouldn't go up, I just removed the panel, hit the electric motor and it worked. No time for repairs at the moment, I did it just to keep the truck closed and locked.
What are some synonyms with the F-150 cab off the frame use my cherry picker like he did but I use straps to mount to the seat belt bolt Downs seat belt bolt Downs in the rear and then for the front I was able to find other places where I can put a bolt at the Loop dingo smooth but it did come off
I was waiting for you to find the loose ground wire. Have a Stx38 yellow deck since 1990. Just had to reattach the engine to the frame as only the ground bolt was still holding it on. Started to vibrate last fall and I didnt get to investigating the issue until this spring. Once I got all 4 bolts back in with blue locktite, no more vibration.
Magneto/magnets will need attention. They are easy to replace. Great work and video getting that old gal going. Just worked on one to use as a softball field dragging tractor. Enjoyed it greatly.
They are still out there and the price for them hasn’t risen like other Mopars so you should be able to find one for a reasonable price. I can’t wait to drive my truck but I’m sure it’s going to be a few years before that happens. Time and money always seem to get in the way.
I would love to say it was my idea but I seen it on another RU-vid channel. I think it was called Estrada Motor Sports but I’m not sure. Thanks for the comment!
Yes life and money seems to get in the way of progress but I hope to have more time this year to work on it. Thank you for the comment I appreciate it!
Them John Deere from that error has the worst hoods than any other mower ever made. I don't think I've ever seen one that functioned as it should. Great video.
My 1990 stx38 still has its original hood in one piece and my only complaint is how difficult it is to remove. I have gotten better at that after diagnosing my recent engine vibration issue. Now if I can remember how to take it off the next time I will be doing great. Chances are I will forget and will need to figure it out all over again. Getting old sucks.
Very helpful video, thank you so much and looking forward to seeing more videos. One question. Did you simply wire wheel the head and manifold surfaces? I'm about to take mine off and want them to be looking that special!
I followed your video, I had the same problem, my rear driver door would barely go down and not up at all, replaced the master switch now all of my windows work normal but that back rear window won't even go down at all anymore. Maybe a bad master switch or rear switch.
The thrust bearing tends to wear rapidly if you step on the clutch when starting. With the old flatheads, it’s best to turn them over with the clutch engaged, to allow the thrust bearing to get proper lubrication. Never seen one damaged quite like yours, though. Maybe it sat for a really long time and was completely dry when someone cranked it for a long time with the clutch disengaged. 🤔
Watch the temperature of the cheap carb. I ran one and it felt OK and I noticed it was actually lean because the engine got much hotter. Hotter than I wanted to risk.
Thanks so much man. I took apart everything, cleaned my throttle body in the process. Clean the MAFS of course. Put it all back together after everything dried and drove it around. I got some power back again, overdrive is smoother. Better vacuum pressure and misfires a little less. Still waiting for my intake hose and new airbox to come in the mail. Great vid 🤙🏼💪
Hi Gary. I believe the reason why you should not run detergent oil in these engines is that it might dislodge gunk into the oil passages and block them. I enjoy your videos very much keep them coming.
These engines would have run detergent oil from when they were new, it was used and recommended since the 50’s. Unfortunately, many owners succumbed to the old myth that; “you only use 30W non detergent in old engines”, and this results in a sludged up engine. Also, the lack of a positive crankcase ventilation system in most of the civilian trucks, shadetree mechanics throwing away the thermostat, and leaded gas, all contributed to sludgy engines. I drive a 1953 Dodge M37CDN every day, year round, and I only use 15W40 diesel engine oil. When you put an old engine back into service, it’s a good idea to run a can of seafoam through the engine, drive it for a couple of days, then do an oil change. That usually cleans most of the goop out. The next oil change is done after about 500 miles, then you can change oil at normal intervals after that. My current engine has been in daily service since 2019, and had sustained damage from being seized for many years, but it just keeps going, and going…..
@@jusportel Detergent oil is NOT recommended for these engines that have only a BYPASS filtering system- not full filtration. These Mopar flathead engines were designed in the early 1930s and remained essentially unchanged until the end of production. (1970s) Bypass filtration systems are controlled by an oil pressure relief valve, that only comes into play at higher engine speeds, thus partial filtration. Detergent oil carries particles of combustion, grit and other junk around the engine to be trapped in a (full-filtration} filter. Not to be carried all over critical bearing surfaces. I'd rather see some sludge in the bottom of a pan than witness the results of scored bearings, etc.
@@dennisdaly907 absolute rubbish, old wives tales. Having run these engines all of my adult life, I can tell you that they DON’T suffer damage from detergent oil. The only time it would cause issues, would be when someone listened to the “voice of wisdom”, and sludged up the engine using non detergent oil. Someone running proper oil in it later, may experience issues. I have seen damage in these engines from leaded gas (pitted valve stems), radiator stop leak compounds (blocked passages, damaged intake valve seats), and lead substitutes. (Buildup of usually red gunk causing valve stem wear). I put a LOT of miles on my engine, and have exclusively used 15W40 oil. Before I owned it, the military used 30W detergent engine oil. I finally took the old engine out of service, as the block cracked. Bored .060 over, left things pretty thin. Bearings and cylinders were still in excellent shape.
I have a 1998 4Runner, also with 354k miles, with abs light on. lol. I am having an issue where it is getting hard to start when the engine is hot and also it will idle really high... sometimes will stall when I put it in gear... usually can get it going but take about 10 minutes. No check engine light on. Someone told me it could be the MAF sensor needs cleaned, while other say it is an issue with the idle control valve. Any suggestions? I plan on cleaning the sensor tomorrow.
It’s really hard to know what’s wrong with a vehicle without seeing it. There are too many things that could be causing the issue. Sorry I couldn’t help and hope you can get it fixed soon.
Hey, I have a lot of questions about your 53’ dodge b3, is there anyway I can get in contact with you via email? I’m restoring one in my class at school!
I think the first thing I would have done would be to make some kind of stand to bolt onto the trans to keep it steady. My blood pressure went up just watching you deal with that round bottomed case hindering your every move!
