We're back on our 1955 Chevy Nomad!
We kind of abruptly stopped working on this old car when the Bricklin came home. Well we got it running and driving for the first time in years! We also found out a little surprise with the motor.
This car has had all the systems gone though so we decide to take it for a ride around the block, in the snow, in December...
This is such a nice driving car, it's unbelievable!

The smile on your face every time you go for a test drive says it all...I'm the same way lol. I'm all for a floor shifter as long as a 4spd or maybe a 5spd goes in. A 5spd would really good be for long trips....

Really nice car Dan. Nothing wrong with restomoding for safety, performance, reliability, serviceability, drive ability, or personal taste. I think most people want that but I totally get keeping a car perfectly stock. The only problem with restomoding is some people turn a fairly safe car into a death trap unwittingly. They screw up the brakes putting disks on front or put in a 400 horse motor without decent brakes or suspension, botching up the electrical, you know as you see thousands of old cars each year. You do good work so build quality and workmanship should not be an issue as it is with some home mechanics. I only own one perfectly stock car and one other one close with only a none numbers matching transmission. My other cars have restomod upgrades and subtle customization most people would not notice and one car is highly customized, very noticeable, that most people love but car judges hate. I have come to not like most car judges and am not a big car show guy. My neighbor had a beautiful Corvair all perfectly stock. It should have won the show, it was docked for having wrong hubcaps and a mod to the carburetors. Wrong on both accounts. So I start arguing with this know it all arrogant idiot and quickly realize he is fairly knowledgeable but only enough to be dangerous. Finally just had to let him know he was wrong and we left for home. Felt bad for the neighbor but that is life. Perfectly stock, who cares anymore, the world is running out of old timers that really know what is correct and what is modded. Way to do what you want to it.

My husband The Celtic Dude got me hooked on Danny's videos and the idea of building our own cars.We drove here 2400 miles to Tennessee last year in our one and only truck. Now we have 3 trucks and a van we have pieced together and I am so proud! We have saved so much money going this route. No car payments! And we have gone through every inch of our vehicles and know them inside and out. They are our little gold bars if we had to sell one or two. It would be smart in 2024 to stay out of debt and have items to sell that people need.

Keep the 3 on the tree loved mine. Had a 57 Chevy wagon back in 62, had a 265 with 3 speed overdrive tranny and of course had the front bench seat. I would be driving, left hand on the wheel and my right around my future wife snuggled up against me. I would work the clutch and she would shift tranny. Best of both worlds

Yes sir, you can't miss that gear whine in those GM three speed transmissions (the ones with the non-synchro first gear, we called them granny boxes) That distinct sound I would hear in my Granddaddy's 40 Chevrolet and his 56 Chevrolet as well as my dad's 61 Chevrolet truck. Like the rest of the internet experts, I noticed your steering wheel not being on center and before you fool with the alignment, I would suggest you pop the horn assembly off and inspect the factory marks on the steering wheel and the steering shaft (if they haven't been obliterated). You may find that that wheel may have been removed and just positioned to center it (people, especially mechanics are bad about that) once it is centered at that point then a good front end mechanic (that knows what he is doing) can center the steering if needed when doing the alignment. You know when you hang up those column shifters you can stop the car and manually align the shift arms on the steering column back to neutral and back in business you are. They can get worn and dried out lubricant wise and a good cleaning and adjusting generally gets them to working. When they really got worn out back in the day the shift tube assembly could be replaced along with worn parts. My first car was a 56 Chevrolet (Granddaddy's) and I did convert it to a floor shifter (Hurst). Later I changed the old granny box out for a later model fully synchronized Saginaw three speed (I could not afford a four speed). You get that car squared away and it will drive nice and that would be the ticket for those hot rod cruises. I believe i would have to keep that one if it were mine.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

So this is my 55 bel air engine arrangement! It was an original 235 with the Borg Warner overdrive. My dad, bless his soul, changed it to a 265! It ran well ish but was just not good! I switched it to a 283! It’s awesome! Absolutely love it! So I couldn’t notice if you have your transmission kick down SWITCH?The overdrive transmission just utterly makes things drive right!!! Fifth avenue internet garage has the relay, solenoid, and governor! But the kickdown switch is different than what they sell! My kickdown switch is located off the carb linkage! Not under the gas pedal! If you do get overdrive in third gear you want to be able depress the gas pedal and cause it to automatically shift out of overdrive! Without the kickdown switch you’re limited for better top end performance! At lower speeds the relay and solenoid automatically shift the transmission back and forth from Direct drive or Overdrive! There is a cut in speed and cut out speed! It sounds complicated but once you make the connection about how it works it’s pretty simple!! Make yourself welcome to come down to Springfield Missouri and we’ll go for a cruise how my car works! And again! We’ve gots a brand new Buc-ee’s just built!

ive had plenty of 3 on the trees, the tooth is wore. from 3rd push it towards dash then go up to 2nd, then push it towards dash to get to neutral. Same with going up. pull it towards you to put in 1st, then pull it to get to neutral then push forward . Its old, needs guidance. cant speed shift that one. They say standard trans is the new theft deterrent, imagine 3 on the tree.long time watcher, fellow canadian, keep up great content. snow dosent cause rust, the salt on our ontario roads,ERR

A VERY Happy New Years to y'all! I'd like to share some arcane old school SBC fyi with you. I know you got the cast number off your block, but did you check the pad numbers? Ever hear of the legendary "thick block" 283's? OK hear 'tis. In 62 when the 327 was being introduced, as always production was based on estimates.Well they severely over estimated the demand for the 327, and under estimated 283 demand. Ran short on 283 blocks. As a result you find 283's with a 283 pad number, and a 327 cast number. They just punched them to 3 7/8 instead of 4", so on 62 & 63 check both numbers. 62 most common, but been told they turned up on 63 too. These rascals are like hens teeth, but SO sweet to find, cause you can even today have a "new" standard bore 327. Not as rare as the "X" Camel back heads, but darn close, so check both numbers. Now just ditch those crappy 265 manifolds for some 2 1/2 Rams Horns, and ready to rock. Also your generator light wire ran to the #1 terminal will complete and excite your Delcotron. It has to have a bulb for resistance so it don't backfeed the system. Just loop main post to # 2 and horn relay, and charge system complete. Hope some of this is useful to you!

Well she's a runner now. I think I would give up on the idea of an "original" cuz it's not. So that frees you up to do what the car really needs. Engine, trans, suspension, brakes. You know how to make this car a real driver and that means losing most of the 50's tech under the hood and suspension. I don't think you can hurt the value by going resto-mod since the car will never be a concourse vehicle. So I would just do what you always do. Make a solid, dependable semi hot rod that can be fixed with currently available parts, but still looks original. I think it sets too low and needs some rally wheels and rings, and probably a LS/4l80 swap etc. But having said that I love that car. It is so cool and you should make it your dream car the way you like it. Happy New Year , Sir.
