Our oldest son just finished his 55 3100 for now, old 6 out put 383 Chevy in & auto ! Bought him a front sway bar for Christmas ! Looking & sounding great ! 👍✌
Beautiful job, I absolutely love the Old Chevy Trucks from the 50's & 60's! The work you and your dad did together is Def something you will have forever as a special shared bond!! These are the times "Golden Memories" are made! Beautiful Job & maybe someday I will have the opportunity to buy one, somewhere!! ~Kim
When you have something like this that have a lot of work to be done sometimes is easier to to get a donor you made the right decision by bringing it back to life specially because of the history behind the truck thanks for sharing it is awesome to see someone taking the time to rescue this oldies to many they are a thing of the past but to the few they are one of a kind because is nothing better then to go for a MIDNIGHT CRUISING
Yo cuz I am so impressed with your work and done in the backyard..I can't imagine what U2 would be able to do in an air conditioned shop with lift,etc..My hats off to U 2..I know its old video but thxx for sharing
Nice job, I'm sure you are grateful to be able to do something like this with your father and him with his son. I built a '57 Chevy with my father and it's something I'll never forget. Great job on the build man.
I have watched this video like 5 times over the last two years... I finally got my heidts Mustang IFS kit and the rear axle from 80 camero. I picked up some great deals off of eBay scored one piece powered windows for 250 bux... unreal.building the 400 small block and 700r4 gonna be a smooth ride. Thanks for posting yer hard patience brother... ride on
right on bro!!!! have fun its gonna be a long road but man i tell you what when you get her on the road it will be all worth it, i would say when your finished but we're never finished with these toys, theres always the next thing lol, have fun in your Build
Awesome job....Way to go....Breathing life back into your Grandfathers truck....I wish I could find my Grandfathers old C10 short bed I drove back on his ranch as a kid...Dig the paint and rims...Nicely done Guys....
thank you very much for your quick response and the info. I am doing cab corners lower tab hinge pockets and rockers just like you did. and just like you my doors are in pretty bad shape so I was contemplating whether to try to repair them or buy new ones. thanks for posting your video it has been an inspiration. you did an awesome job I just hope mine turns out as nice is yours. I definitely have a new respect for what it takes to bring one of these old trucks back to glory
Nice job. Even something that old looks high tech in bright white. I bought mine in 1970 and it was my first car. Still have it but it looks like your "before" pictures. I am working at mine and yours is inspiration. Mine still needs perspiration
Ya from what I hear from most guys is you either have a Nice Classic vehicle or a wife, rarely do you have both, because both take a TON of time and MONEY, I think I got mine done fast because I wasn't married lol, now its time for a wife were all the real WORK will begin lol
George Contreras Be faithful to your truck only. It will never cheat on you. Will give you a good return on your investment and will only appreciate and look better with time. Firme Trocka!
Very sweet build....Nice frame work....Love the white paint job.....Very CLEAN....Nice video and the music is the bomb.....10 outta 10 my Brother....Be safe...Cheers....
George Contreras , your welcome George. I can appreciate the work you did. I restored a couple of 4-4-2 Oldsmobile’s. Lots of weekends, and evenings after work, finding parts, etc.
Thats gonna be a super cool bonding experience for the both of you, i know i was for me and my Dad ill never forget all the laughs and busted knuckles lol, have fun and i wish you the best of luck
Very nice work. I'm in the final stages of similar frame off resto of my 55' second series longbed. I can totally appreciate all the work you put into this beauty. Hope to see you at some SoCal car shows. Muy gracias y buenos suerte!
Not a fan of slide shows but this was nice to watch and I love it when they save this beautiful machines that would otherwise be rotting somewhere or headed to a crusher
Without a doubt, i literally poured that 2 car slab just to work on this project, i use the extra car side to do regular maintenance on my other cars 😊
right now I have a 305 sbc, with a 700r4 tranny, HEIDTS SUPERIDE II front clip, which is adjustable for the ride height, 5 inch drop mono leaf springs in the rear, but I would definitely get the adjustable 4 link for the rear instead, im going 4 link when get some extra overtime at work lol, right now Im working on putting in a 350 for more power
i would say your very lucky your trucks been sitting in a garage lol, rust repair is no fun at all, It sounds like you have a pretty straight body to start with, which will make things alot easier. Good Luck with your build, being that the truck has been in your family that long its will be worth it when its done
also I understand that the doors are just a shell and do not have any locking mechanisms or window mechanisms. but my question is they do already have the hinge brackets pockets in place?
Wonder if my dad olds 55 is still on the road, had to sell it about 10 years ago, lucky guy bought a running driving 55 for only 4k. Still hate that he sold it but we needed money at the time. Candy apple red recromed everything rebult from the ground up. If the economy hadent of tanked i would of driven that to highschool
Beautiful work. What type welder and settings did you use of the IFS? I'm still a little new to welding and am not sure I can pull off the weld size it takes for suspension parts.
the welder I used was a Miller Dynasty 200 DX TIG/Stick Welder, I Stick Welded it using 1/8 welding rod to lay down a 1/4 weld bead in a single pass, that welder is pretty pricey, I borrowed it from work, as I was a welder at the time, but you just need a welder that can burn 1/8 welding rod, I would NOT have a weld bead less then 1/4 inch on your IFS. By settings I take it your talking about the amps that I used to burn the rod, well every machine is different by usually you want to burn 1/8 rod from 110 to 130 amps
I used a product called Rust Bullet (Automotive Formula) its a rust inhibitor, it works really good. I sanded the frame down to pretty much all bare metal then used Rust bullet but it needs to be top coated at least the one I got because its not protected against UV light (SUN), I found out the hard way when a area exposed to the sun for a couple weeks started to peel and I had to redo that area, I would have like to power coated the frame but didn't because of the heavy cost of it.
incredible, hermanos! great job, you did there, in only two years! congrats! i'd personnaly prefer more classical American wheels, but my taste! la saluda de Francia!
Sry for the late response but it all depends on how much work you do yourself, i would say around 14k to 18k if u do most of the work yourself, 19k to your first born... if you get everything done in the shop lol
+1958 gmc 100 i did have to use reproduction doors, i would have rather stayed with the originals ones but they were way to rusted out, i tried to save them but it was a no go. they were not too bad of a fit, but believe me you will have to do some adjusting with a big hammer, and torch to bend them into the best fit, i let my body shop guy takle this, i would suggest the same unless to have those skills, i mean they come from china so enough said lol, i got mine at "THE TRUCK SHOP" in Anaheim CA, they have a online catalog where you can find everything after market for these trucks i mean EVERYTHING, hope the info helps
Hey Goarge what kind of suspension did you put in the front and rear end? Was it a kit? Great video I always come back to this for inspiration for my 55 project!
i installed a HEIDTS (Superride II) for Pickups its a really nice kit comes with disc brakes and power steering, the rear was from a shop they said it was a posi traction rear end from a 79 firebird, im glad the video gives u inspiration i could have really used one when i was building mine because man there was days i felt "thats it im done" lol
Ok thanks man I appreciate it! Mine is going to take a lot of work as well, same rust that you had to replace. I'm a body guy by trade so the mechanics is what scares me lol
I used 4 inch drop mono leaf springs, but i want to put in a adjustable 4 link rear suspension so i can adjust the ride hight in the rear to exactly where i want it, with the monos its a one shot deal
