I remember when you brought the Caddy home, and we all watched a young man fall in love with that car. Good to see you again, and always fun to see the car.

Hey Ben, enjoyed the caddy video, gonna be a nice ride when it's done. Have a question for you, I just bought a 77 vette 4 speed, 72k, runs great but rear end makes a noise when taking off usually around a corner, I've been told it's the clutch pack in the rear end, have ever heard of that,?....thanks Ralph

Right. Which is cooler? A young man driving some old 'Vette, or driving a 56 Caddy?

I wasn't worried you would damage your lift; I was worried about the lift dumping the Cadillac! She is a 'Car' Star on RU-vid. Hey Chopstick! Good to see you and your person again.

I know that the kind of cars you mainly work on is built right into the title of your channel, but I really like it when you work on these old classic cars. I enjoyed every one of the videos on the Cadillac. Thanks for posting this.

I'm a big fan of old Cadillacs. I just got a '58 to restore and I finished my '68 during the pandemic. Just remember, the only time an old car like that isn't leaking oil is when it is out of oil!

Ben, so glad to see the old Caddie getting some well deserved love. I have not seen any videos on the old gal in a while, and I was curious if you still had the vehicle. Nice job on the transmission pan, We ( my family) had an old time mechanic, that did all all of our transmission work on our vehicle's when needed, and an old trick that Donald( the mechanic) always did, regardless of make or type of automatic transmission, was to straighten every transmission oil pan. He stated, if he didn't, they always leaked like a sieve, so do the smart thing and get the trusty old hammer and dolly or anvil and get to hammering. 😊

Good job. As an added security you can degrease the mating surfaces with thinner and apply a small amount of black permatex on both sides of the gasket. Then put the pan back on and let the permatex cure/dry BEFORE you put the fluid back in.

My father worked at GM, 1968-1998. New production for the coming year started just after July 4th. So, judging by the body number, your body was probably made during Jan-Mar, 1956. You can use VIN lookup to obtain the assembly date, if you want. Hope this helps!

Those steel pans, you need to peen the pan. Basically hit the hole with the round end of a ball peen hammer to push the hole back out. When you tighten a bolt on a thin steel surface, it pulls the metal in. Old school shop teacher taught me this 20 years ago.

People often overestimate how much old cars weigh. They may be physically large, but there's a lot of empty space inside - no side door impact beams, no computers, no miles and miles of wiring, and so on.
@discerningmind

Yes, I agree. I first learned this when I bought a '66 Bel Air. What a lightweight! I don't have a figure for the weight of it, but during expressway driving, if I went over 60 MPH the front of the car would lift up a few inches and the manual steering would very noticeably lighten up, something like driving on ice.
