Devon General 765 , 1956 AEC Regent V , on Wespoint Rally day 20th September 2009. Stopping off at Exeter Bus garage. A run through Exeter High Street with the sound of the exhaust cracking off the shopfronts ! Risking life and limb hanging off the platform raised a few eyebrows but it was worth it !

This bus is the same age as me but it 's in better condition lol. I love these buses. We had the old RT's and the Routemasters. I think our kids have missed out on not having these type of buses as their everyday transport. Bring them back into service!

Devon General- a magic name! When I was growing up in Plymouth in the 1950s I used to see one occasionally arriving at "Harvest Home" which was the place for out of town buses to stop.

So, these left the factory with straight-pipes? Why was that? Was it deemed to be acceptably refined and cheaper than fitting silencers? Even in the 1950s I would have expected it to have some kind of silencing.

Cidertom. 470's do sound like they idle too fast - they are a short stroke engine.....
