Amen, love that as well, and I'm the same when it comes to my video game collection they are meant to be played, not to sit on a shelf in a shrink wrapped box/case, and looked at.

Same here man,build a nice driver to enjoy...that's what they are for.Spend too much money and it will never see light of day or the road and there's no fun in that.

There's value in museum pieces but also value in drivers. Not all cars put away last well either, my Grandpap had a 1960s Pontiac Grand Prix Convertible which he stored but now Uncle says it's full of mold as it was stored under tarps in a garage with a dirt floor next to a creek, hence it kept moisture IN the car. It hasn't been started for over 10 years either so who knows what to say about the gaskets and if something in the engine is seized up or not.
@rollin19
@rollin19 8 лет назад
You can do it,It's never too late to restore a classic forget what people think a classic car should look like,they come from everywhere barns,scrap yard,if you can imagine where you'd see a classic car then it's probably there. About a classic car being too far gone,there's no such thing,anything is worth restoring if you believe there's potential.I don't care if the frame rotted completely away and its just the body that is decaying.Let me tell you,I've been to car shows over the years.Here I am standing over a perfectly restored Chevelle ss just drooling with envy.You would thought the car drove out of storage after 30 years and owned it like that since new,nope.Then I open his picture album of the restoration...I couldn't believe it...the car looked like swiss cheese,there was rust upon rust.Just about everywhere like the back dash was rotted badly.But stand back and you'd never think it was the same car.So get over the fear of rust,that's your first mistake and you will be on your way to an amazing looking car.
@101Volts
@101Volts 8 лет назад
I'm sure it has potential, much appreciated for your encouragement! However, I was commenting on the Pontiac's current condition and I'm not scared of whatever rust it may have. Pap also had a 1941 Dodge truck which hasn't been on the road for over 40 years and it's a big project but yeah, I'd like to work on it. The frame's all solid for starters, the body not as much and it was flinging oil off the driveshaft and there's no motor oil filter but all of that can be fixed. :)

No, you're not alone there. Choked me up bigtime. I saw the thumbnail pic of what Jay had up this week and thought "meh, another ratrod Chevy" - then decided to check it out anyways. SO glad I did. :-) This one is why I love Jays' channel so much - with him, it's as much the story behind the cars as the cars themselves. It's how you know he's a real "car guy". Look how at ease he is here- he loves and admires these guys as much for who they are as what they built.

You are the ultimate living encyclopedia of cars. you make learning about older classic cars exciting. I love the way you take us back on what it was like living with these cars being sold as everyday cars. ive been watching your videos since the beginning with the corvette. You make me want to move from New England and go to california. Hope you get this message Mr Leno
@7dreams1935
@7dreams1935 8 лет назад
I live in California and take my advice, you don't want to move here. It is a great place to visit but way too expensive to live here. If you want rust-free cars, there are lots here. Buy one and take it home. You will have enough cash to buy fuel for it. Good luck.

@101Volts
@101Volts 8 лет назад
I read the gasoline in California is awful for MPG. It might have nice land but literally, if your car doesn't pass "Smog test" it's not roadworthy. There are ways to fix that though and cleaning the piston cylinders may make a difference if that's causing the issue.
@sp1nrx
@sp1nrx 8 лет назад
California tests 1975 and later cars for emissions. Anything earlier is exempt. The standards for passing depend on year of car so not all cars have the same requirements: later model cars = very clean, older = not as clean.

+Yuriy Pono -- Well, I'm 66 years old and been in love with cars since I built my first model at 6 years old and I've had a lifetime of looking down on 4 door cars so pretty hard to change. When I was a kid 4 doors = family car, mom mobile, utilitarian appliance. People bought them to haul their kids around. 2 door cars on the other hand are for fun. Plus 2 door cars generally had much cleaner lines. I still cringe when I see the new "hot hatches" with 4 doors. One's grandparents drove 4 door cars and your cool uncle drove a 2 door hot rod. I didn't dislike this video but my dad owned a service station and in 1960 he came home with a 1957 Chevy 210 with a 265 bored out to 292ci, an automatic and 4 doors. Boring... So, I've had 50+ cars and only one of them had 4 doors.

The cars are the same exact lenght. Comoing down the assembly line they laid the floor pan first second was the cowl and firewall then the next piece was the inner rear quarter panel. It could either be a two door inner quarter or a 4 door quarter. then the outer quarter was installed and then the roof. I took one of these cars a part and changed out the inner fenders of a 4 door 55 chev and installed the two door inner fenders and the outer quarters and then hung the two doors at the same time. I used the full inner fenders and the full "B" outer quarters and hung the doors. It was a fair amount of work and was driven by a mint floor and mint roof and firewall. Also the trunk was nice. There is a cheap way to do this on the internet by using 5 gallons of bondo but I only needed it for the seams. Roof and floor....same size for both Gary

As a retired veteran, I must say you two did a great job knowing all the obstacles you had to deal with over the time and deployments it took to finish it! What's more important and impressive is that you were able to start and finish it together! Those are and will be the best memories!

Lets see if I got this.....a soldier comes home from Viet Nam, marries, and has a son. He teaches his son the values of our Nation. His son goes into the Marine Corps, gets blown up, comes home, and than goes back?!, twice...?! Ramadi the same time as the American Sniper story, and, while hes clearing houses, and killing the hidden enemy....he is sending all his pay home to Pop., to help make a dream come true? Truly a moving video about 2 heros, on a mission. Dad and Son share a pride that's a bond few can understand. EXCELLENT work, Jay.Dislikes???? Those 87 paint chip eating cretins would never stand up to a service man in person. Gutless losers.

Wonderful story! Dad and son build a classic together and it's beautiful inside and out! And what really got me aside from the Vet connection they share, it's obvious these guys are full of joy and appreciation for their lives! This was one of the most entertaining episodes of JLG. The three of them had great chemistry!

I bet he got that ticket on Camp Pendleton based on personal experience. I worked on that base for a few years as a civilian and before I showed up on my first day my boss warned me about speeding on the base because they will nail you for less than 5 over and if pulled over besides getting a federal ticket that is impossible to fight (and also has a giant fine from what I was told) you could also lose driving privileges on base. The base is also huge (~125,000 acres) and most of it is just rolling hills of nothing with super low speed limits. When I worked there I only lived about 5 miles from the gate but once I was on base I had another 7.5 miles of driving to get to the building I worked in so the moment I crossed that gate I would use my cruse control as much as possible. The other fun bit about federal bases is that radar detectors are illegal even though in California they are legal so my escort passport was rarely ever plugged in unless I had a road trip.

This may be the best episode I have seen, because of the story of these two guys. As a father with boys, they have inspired me. Kudos Jay for doing this. The story made this story, and the fact it is an everyday guy car. Fantastic.

I'm sure they both appreciated the "Is this the best car in the world? No" comment Jay. In my view this car is right up there with the best cars in the world because of the story behind it, never mind that I'm a Ford fan that car and it's builders are 1st class!

grate to see Father & Son car guys. I did the same thing when I came home from the service back in 1970. I found A 1958 corvette race car in the Sun times not far from my house. good thing to. because it barely ran. LOL. But it was the best thing I could have done. Because instead of going out and getting in trouble I was working on the Vet. I still got into trouble ,but maybe not as much.

Its a superb car show and i hate to mix that with politics, but since some of the replies were very disrespectfull i have to say this: I do think that alot of you nay sayers dont know how much courage is needed to drive a humvee through an IED infested country day after day. Without the american armed forces 90 % of the worldi f not all of it would be ruled by fascist regimes by now .The money and equipment alone spent on the Iraq war by far exceeds any so called " free oil money" you are speaking about,That fascist regime had to be brought down, the mistake was to pull out so quickly and leave a power vaccum.President George Bush saw the danger of a ruthless dictator with WMD manufactoring knowledge, threatening to take over other countries and at least 50% of the worlds oil reserves thus gaining even more power and leverage.What would you have done instead?how would you decide concerning north korea in the future? , who would do the "dirty work" then ? you?
