Here's another personal car from my friend and neighbor Dennis McCarthy. Dennis is well known for producing all of the Fast & Furious cars since Tokyo Drift and many other well known cars (most recent Batmobile, Marvels, etc) but not many people get to see his personal cars until now. In a recent episode we showed his '68 Chevelle and in this episode I got the opportunity to shoot and drive his '57 Chevy 210 which is simply a cool gangster car.
Enjoy!

Correction: the car that is in this video is not the "in between model" which is a 210 series. The one in this video is a 150 series which is the economy model also known as "the businessman coupe.

In '62, my neighbor had a black 57 Bel Air with a 4 speed, posi and Cragar wheels. He would patch-out and our jaws dropped. I was 13 and that sealed my desire to own one. When I turned 16 I bought my 57 Bel Air in perfect mint condition in high school. Currently, it is a frame--off restored car with B&M blown and injected, 4 speed, 12 bolt posi (4.10 gears) with High Tech Air Ride Suspension (Performance System and not air bags) with sway bars.

The car is a 150. It has the interior, steering wheel and exterior trim exclusive to a 150. The VIN tag on the drivers side door jam should confirm - the first four digits should read VA57 (V=V8, A=150 series, 57=model year). The 5th digit is the assembly plant. If the VIN reads VB57 it was originally a 210 model. If there is no V the car wasn't originally a V8 - it was a 6. Good story though!

The reason why they don't show you the Vin number is because that car is not original...... The guy driving the car around town is a real douchebag.....

This '57 Chevy shows perfect why aera exact wheels are the most beautiful way to go with classic cars. I've to say, that the most classic cars with big rims can't beat the look with classic custom wheels in the sizes like on this '57 Chevy. 15" with 275/60 at the rear or something else like this is so cool, so beautiful... For example, 20" or more is looking goofy

I know this video is from a few years ago. But I had to correct you on your description of your friend’s 57 Chevy. You said it’s a 210. It’s actually a 150, the lowest of the trim available. You can tell by the spear on the outside, the interior, and the steering wheel doesn’t have a horn ring. The other thing that is cool about his car is it looks like it is actually a legendary Black Widow. They had the 327 fuel injection. They were known to be the one to beat in NASCAR. I have a 57 Chevy four door with 39,000 miles. Originally owned by a little old lady in Smithville, Missouri. I know you’ve probably already been told what I have here. But I had to share.

Shawn, it's nice to see regular street machines for cruisin' around. Just like the old 60's and '70's days without the heavy mods. Say Shawn, are you still looking for more show ideas? 1) How about a trip to Dynacorn to see how they make their new bodied '67 - '69 Camaro's - Firebird's, Mustang's, and the newly released '70 Challenger bodies etc. You could also ask them what car or truck bodies they plan on releasing in the future. 2) A trip to a hi-perf exhaust manufacturer like Flowmaster to show what's really involved in designing street and race mufflers 3) A tour to a custom billet wheel manufacturer on the creative process from their initial drawing concepts, cad programming, and on to the finished product. Keep those car vids coming. Later!

I have a 56 4 door 210. It was my grandfathers and he’s no longer here with us, but he knew I would take great care of it I surely have. It needs some work done to it. Has it since I was 18 and it is a blast to go cruising in it. And really the 4 door is not much longer or different from the 2 door. Unfortunately the original 265 grenaded on me on my way home. So it needs a new motor but I have in mind what it need because the car is far from matching lol. Pontiac rear end, hooker headers with purple hornies and a 4 barrel as well as a fiberglass front clip. So its certainly not factory but it doesn’t matter anymore and it’s ok. I still consider it grandpas car and keep his hat in the car with me at all times. The no power steering is certainly fun too.

Looks like a 57 version of my 56 150 utility sedan...except mine has blue flames and a 375hp Chevelle BBC, six speed and 69 Chevelle 12 bolt with Alston ladder bars. The story: assembled in Oakland CA for Pacific Bell Telrphone...army green with paint code "special" Bought at auction in 1966 by the shop that serviced it..I tried to buy it at that time. Fast forward to 1979 I found it at a neighbors house...he bought it from the shop and I talked him into selling it to me It's prowling the streets in Las Vegas now. Started has a six banger with 3 spd.manual and overdrive. I never replaced the rear cargo area with seats...plywood with carpet and quarter panels and backboard to match front seat....play pen for my kids eons ago....

E.j. Lucas That’s not 55 trim. It’s the 150/210 trim...it was a lower cost model than the top dog Bel Air that most people want and are familiar with. The Bel Air is the star, but the 150/210 was the trim you see used most in racing. Look up Black Widow 1957.

my kink is day-2 (maybe day-3?) ...growing up in late 60's and 70's, this is exactly what you would have seen...tri-5 with corvette running gear...this one top of the line with ramjet and m20...the narrowed rear would have been seen as super serious equipment for the street...prob relocated leaf springs too. because there were a lot of them, back then, I kinda got snobby and hated on the tri-5, which was stupid because they really are a great street car...great basis for making it your own. so have come full circle to liking them again, esp the lower trim line coupes like this one. hard to believe that the psycho upholstery was how they came...I think its actually a 150 trim level but its great...just don't stare at it too long cause you will go crazy. Thx for the vid...great car. also, putting it in there for more cars like this...street cars of the 60's 70's...no electronics, no power ads.

I love the drag race between the 57 and the Cobra and watching it try to get traction...and it was Michelle Pfifers first big movie. Dunno why it took me this long to see this episode. But its a great one. I dig the story too. My 16 yr old dream car was (and still is) a 66 Lincoln. It has to be the hardtop. The droptop is just sooo complicated and a maintenance nightmare from what I've been told and also what I've read. Midnight blue with light blue interior. But the 57 Chevy is an icon. A true American icon. I'm curious tho...has Dennis dine any other mods since this video first showed here on RU-vid.

Don’t think he’s done anything else except overall clean up then recently gave it to his dad which was a very cool gift

That is a special model for the 150’s it’s called a “Black Widow”. Most all black widows had the 150 trim style with a fuel injection munze 4 speed and with heat and radio delete plates. Me and my father are building one now.

In 1957, the 4-speed was offered over the counter late in the model year, it was not a Muncie but probably a Borg-Warner T-10. The 1957 "Black Widow" was my favorite for that year, awesome car.

Dennis knows what he's doing with stance and look on old school themes. Shawn do you know what brand wheels those are? American racing Torq thrust D with a different darker metal color? Or something else?

Not a 210. The 210 had the Bell Aire side teim without the stainless insert. That has the 150 trim.

Yep I caught that mistake also. I had a 210 in highschool. 1968. I graduated in 70

I've got too many dream cars. It's good and bad. I want them all but I've also got such a wide range of cars I want that if I can find just one I will be happy. Wide range higher chance of finding them rather than searching for one specific car and possibly never getting it.

That is a beautiful example of a 150, 2dr Chevy. If that be stock steering wheel it will say 150 in center. I would like to suggest a small factory upgrade and that be the two black rubber dagmars to the front bumper, just sayin'. Cheers Eh!

He says it’s a 210. Knowing Dennis he’s changed it to look more basic like a 150

What’s size are the tires? That owner knows the perfect stance and wheel combos (with his Chevelle too). Thanks for sharing!

Really awesome it brings me back to the old days well at least how I could imagine them cuz I wasn't old enough to enjoy them yet hell I wasn't even born hahahahaha but from the stories I hear from all the old timers makes me want to blow the cobwebs off of some of the old hot rods and get them going
@AutotopiaLA
@AutotopiaLA 5 лет назад
Yeah, fun old school car. Dennis told me today he’s gonna dig into it and sort out a few things so he can hotrod it without worrying about the rear end going away.

drivin' around with that rear axle is like a boxer training on a torn heavy bag that's been sewn back together with regular thread....just one hard punch

Yep! Dennis told me today that’s he’s ready to RE-build the rear end and get it right. Not his style to have things not right and ready to rock
