Can be built as stock or drag version with Mr. Gasser graphics and logos. Super detailed engine can be built 3 ways: 283 Corvette fuel injection, Six Carburetor and GMC Supercharger. Opening hood, doors and trunk. Detailed interior with 2 options for the door panels. Officially licensed with General Motors. Skill level 3.
The 1957 Chevrolet is a car that was introduced by Chevrolet in September 1956 for the 1957 model year. It was available in three series models: the upscale Bel Air, the mid-range Two-Ten, and the One-Fifty. A two-door station wagon, the Nomad, was produced as a Bel Air model. An upscale trim option called the Delray was available for Two-Ten 2-door sedans. It is a popular and sought after classic car. These vehicles are often restored to their original condition and sometimes modified. The car's image has been frequently used in toys, graphics, music, movies, and television. The '57 Chevy, as it is often known, is an auto icon.
The 1955 model year Chevrolet introduced its now-famous small-block V-8 - the first V-8 available in a Chevrolet since 1918.[5] It has a displacement of 265 cu in (4,340 cc). Prior to 1955, Chevrolet offered a 235 cu in (3,850 cc) displacement in-line 6-cylinder engine only. The 1955 model, like its engine, was all new. The "shoebox" design, so named because it was the first Chevrolet to feature streamlined rear fenders, was a watershed for Chevrolet. The lightweight car, coupled with a powerful overhead valve V-8, became a showroom draw, but also thrust the company into the arena of competitive motorsports. 1955 Chevrolets went on to dominate drag racing and became a formidable force in circle track racing. In 1956, the design was lengthened somewhat in front and given a more squarish treatment; under the hood, engine power increased and a Chevrolet Corvette engine was available for the first time in a full-size passenger car. In 1957, the V-shaped trim on the tail fins was filled with a ribbed aluminum insert exclusive to the Bel Air's upgraded trim level. The fuel-injected engine represented the first time that an internal combustion gasoline engine in a passenger car reached an advertised one horsepower for each cubic inch benchmark, although the Chrysler 300B beat that by a year in its 355-horsepower, 354 c.i.d dual-carburetored engine, and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint was introduced a year earlier than that (1954), with a 79 cubic inch (1290cc) engine that produced 80 hp. In NASCAR racing the 283 with its increased horsepower gave the '57 a dramatic advantage over the smaller 265 V8 the '55 and '56 had. NASCAR held the competition, especially the '55-'57 Chevrolet to a cubic inch restriction because of all the races the '57s were winning. This restriction stayed with the '55-'57 until they were grandfathered out of the lower NASCAR divisions in the 1970s as the '57 was still beating virtually all in their class.
Body choices for 1957 included:
2- and 4-door sedans (identified by the "Pillars" between door windows)
2-door "Sport Coupe" (a two-door hardtop - the car has no pillar between the front and back window when the window lowered)
"Sport Sedan" (a 4-door hardtop)
2-door Utility Sedan, a two-door sedan with a package shelf instead of a rear seat
Delray "Club Coupe", which was a Two-Ten model 2-door sedan with a deluxe interior
The top-of-the-line 2-door Bel Air Nomad station wagon with a sloped pillar behind the hardtop door and sliding windows at the rear seat, unique ribbed roof sheetmetal and lower roofline height mimickng the hardtop models.

Great video. Couple of points: this kit is not from 1973; it was first released in 1962, making this a sixty year old mold. Atlantis appears to have cleaned up the molds as best they could. The problems you ran into at the end of the build are known to old timers like myself. I'm surprised that of all the old molds that Atlantis got a hold of, they brought this one back.

Whenever I've built this kit when it was Revell issued, I always glued in the hinges first with the doors on. Then I'd glue in the inner fenders which allows to do adjustments. Sometimes I'd have to file down a little of the inners fenders at areas and they'd drop in like butter. Same with the trunk and hood hinges, I'd glue those in first then primer and paint after. Never had an issue that way with the firewall or other fitments. Always built up as a great kit.

And tape them in place when painting. I have two going and I know Chris didn't have the time to, but I filled in the ends of doors, trunk, and hood to eliminate the gaps. I do want to garner some of his "git 'er done" pace though!

This is how it all started back in the 60s. Models first then progress to the real deal. Now doing my final rendition of a Blown 57 Chevy 60s gasser in full size. I must admit that spending $7.95 for a model back then was all the money in the world but sure was a lot cheaper to build.

When I started the kits were around $1.48. By the 80's they were up to around 7 and 8 dollars. Now it's ridiculous what they charge and they're made in China.

On a 57 Chevy, if the radiator sits in front of the rad support, it was originally a 6 cylinder car (the V8 didn't have the length so the rad goes behind the support). The panels behind the grill are semi gloss black along with the inner fenders, but the floor pans are red oxide if you aren't going full custom in color appearance. The firewall remains body color and the engine was Chevy Red not orange as the muscle car era--but the standard engine was the 265 cid V8 in chartreuse (no oil filter) with a manual transmission. This is all if you want the car to look "Day Two", stock but with add-ons in the late 1950's/early 1960's. Glad you gave an honest review, because other than the opening doors, there's a lot of 1957 Chevy models to choose from.

I always loved this kit! I remember finding this kit in my brothers apartment it was the pink low rider issue! Years later I bout the hot rod issue of it and it was a challenge especially trimming all that flash, but it taught me patience , stick with it and it turned out ok. I bought it again this time it had the corvette wheels! It turned out better ! Next up the Ed Roth issue it was going real good built it up as a gasser, but I had to move and during that move the body got crushed 😢so now we’re on this one and I’m gonna repeat what I did with the gasser! This kit is a definite skill builder and it’s one I don’t mind buying over and over!

I built an older revell version of this kit. I don't remember having any fitment issues. it is a little tricky, and I skipped the hood hinge all together so the hood can be removed entirely to see the 6 stromberg carburetors. I've also used the intake manifold and carburetors from another version of this kit in the amt 58 impala.

Nice job. I was one of those infuriated 12 y.o. builders in 1962 when this was first available. It was a tough go back then, got worse with each passing decade. Not a player now though it looks like Atlantis has cleaned the tooling up a lot. One of the key ‘mus do’ steps to building this kit successfully is to secure the rocker panels to the outer edges of the chassis. This eliminates the rubber ducky flexibility of the body though it’s still a tough go getting the doors to close tightly. INHO this kit and its’ Revell tri-five brethren are best used as diorama rust buckets… later repeats of the subjects are infinitely better.

I still have mine from 1967 and the Nomad. when i bought and built the kit. Pink met with a white roof. The Nomad in Copper met. The 55 is the best kit of the 4 but the front fenders lack the welt on the side. The new 2 pice body kits are fantastic.

This kit, in its 1977 reissue, was the very first model kit I ever “built”. And yes it was a mess. But in 2011, I took it upon myself to build it again, as carefully as I could. For starters, I began with the fit and function of the doors, hood, and trunk. They all work as advertised, after some gentle, pre-paint persuasion. I also used my parts box for a few parts I wasn’t happy with(wheels, tires, and engine) It looks good, and is buildable. But man was it a PITA ! I’ll see if I can post pictures of mine on the FB page. Thanks again for a good, honest review, Chris

This Atlantis issue is in much better mold condition than Revell's last release as the Ed Roth shop car, but this kit originally debuted in 1962 not 73. I've built this kit a few times, first time I was still early teens, I had no trouble with the door and hood hinges. Possibly because I installed 'em before the dash and firewall and Fender wells- actually since I was building a gasser version I may have left the Fender wells off for header clearance- maybe that's why the hinges fit. I don't know if Atlantis changes Revells instructions, but each time I built the '57, I installed the hinges first so I could paint the body with all parts attached if I remember correctly....nice build regardless

Great video Chris. Tim Boyd did a build off of all four of the 57 Chevs from MPC/Revell/AMT and Monogram in the early 80's in Scale Auto mag. This Revell kit finished 2nd behind the AMT kit when finished in terms of accuracy, but he did criticize the kit for difficulty of build. He said many of these kits were started by young builders back in the day (early 60's as pointed out by others), but not finished due to the complexity of finishing the kit. Definitely not a first build for a new modeler.....

Cool build! My only nit pick is there should have been some real drag slicks and Cragars included

In the first few issues around 1963, it had slicks and craigers.

Nice job car looks clean. Can you tell me the name of glue you use seems to work great I use Tamia thin get good results but sometimes it dries too fast I've also tried the Tamia citrus glue that takes a little longer to dry. Thank you for all your tips.

i think it's better if you can to have a slight turn on the wheels, like the car is about to pull out.

Reminds me of the old revell 57 chevy lowrider " witches passion " kit from the 1970's.

Chris, great job toughing it out though the build. Those old Revell kits had a billion parts and were quite fiddley. Imagine trying this build at 10 years old. They do come out as acceptable replicas when completed. Thanks for the review!

Hi Chris, do you have any idea where i can get a decal sheet for this model. I bought this kit online from a seller and it has everything but the decal sheet. Any help is appreciated. I love your videos!

I would contact that dealer or Atlantis for a replacement sheet. I'm not sure if they can or will but that would be your best bet.

The 57 looks cool as stock, My Grandparents had a 57 210 2Dr. Sedan. BUT . the 57 Chevy as a Gasser oh yes it is BAD. Back in the day they rule the drags. Great job as always. Love your videos.👍👍👍👍👍

What's the glue you brush on?
@hpiguy
@hpiguy Год назад
Plastruct Bondene is my preferred plastic glue. But all the modern brush on liquid glues work well.

Just a tip - on some of the candy color hot rods and customs I paint, I do the engine block the same color as the exterior of the vehicle. What a POP!!

Is Atlantis Models part of Revell or did Atlantis purchase the molds from Revell?
@hpiguy
@hpiguy 2 года назад
Atlantis bought a massive amount of Revell's old tooling when Revell's parent company Hobbico went bankrupt a few years ago.

@@hpiguy Thank you brother for answering my question. Hopefully they also purchased the '55 with opening doors and trunk, would love to see that one released again.

Waiting for the coming 56. The old Revell plastic sucks. Hopefully soon, but probably 2023.

What an awsome build. It not that often you have a 1/25th scale with opening doors and trunk. I remeber my brother had 57 chev ...took out the stock engine and replaced it with a complete custom engine.

You warn about super glue "fogging" clear parts. If you coat the clear part with your "Future" floor finish ( or whatever they're calling it these days) , the super glue won't react with the plastic and fog it! Give it a try.

Correct, it can still happen though so I try to avoid it when I can.

Another reissue of the HIGHLY INACCURATE Body Revell 57 Chevy. If you compare the body to the AMT 57 Chevy, the Revell looks like it was mastered by Ray Charles. Of the 55, 56, and 57 kits, the 55 Is the most accurate.
