Now that’s what I call “Cherry”. Good price, good shape, runs with no smoke, drives and stops. It’s an all around “WIN” no matter how you slice it. I can see a boom crane mounted next to the cab, and cable winches front and rear. It’s old stuff like this that makes your channel great. I can’t tell you how much I like your channel just for old cars trucks and equipment. There have been plenty of times I wished I was your neighbor just so I could come over and see what was old parked in your driveway. 👍👍
Old head-turner truck is a blast, It's all the reason needed, I don't have to be driving it to appreciate the emotional response one has to old trucks!
Excellent keep finding the old iron Jonathan . When this truck rolled off the line , I was 12months old . classic vehicles . They're in my blood . Always have been , always will be . Top man .
My Uncle had a 58 & 59 on his farm. Learned how to drive them in the fields @ the ripe age of 12. Those trucks were work horses. Thanks for the memories. :)
I have a 58 Chevy fuel tank truck and a 59 Chevy 2&1/2 ton flatbed. The flatbed actually runs but needs work. I had the tank truck running several years ago but the clutch was out. My daily driver is a 59 Chevy one ton panel truck.
Kool truck , almost as old as I am. We had a short bed 56 Chevy , I loved that old girl as a kid , we worked on her after getting it around 1965. New brakes , master cylinder wheel cylinders the whole nine yes. She was used hard by us for a few yrs moving sand , shoveled must have moved 20 tons in total trips and small bed. Wish my pop had saved her for me but she was wanted by another. Really enjoy your vids a lot , thanks
You are a lucky man to have a wife that enjoys the old iron from days gone by . Mine just looks and says unreal more junk and doesn't want to see it anywhere on the place. Great ride you have to add to your collection.
The interior of that truck does look pretty nice for its age so someone did some work to it for sure. Always loved the look of those trucks. Thanks for sharing
I bought a six pack of those bottles you are using to prime with off of Amazon. Best thing I ever did. You can fill float bowls with them and if you take the dip tube off inside you can turn it upside down and use it as a fuel tank for small engines. I love those old trucks too I hope you do something cool with it.
I learned to drive ours (2-ton dump) at 12 y/o. I had to scoot down to get the clutch pedal pushed in, put it in granny and just let the clutch out- you couldn’t stall it in first. Head down the dirt road feeling like a king! I’d pull it out of gear and stand on the brake with both feet to stop! Ours had the floor starter, too. I still remember that smell and sounds....
I'm here from the future to comment. I somehow missed this video until I watched the Unit 614 Crane Repairs part 5. (3-30-21) That's a fantastic truck! That 235 won't do anything for you in a hurry, but it will do it for you reliably for a long darn time., I'm a bit jealous. I know what you mean about the brakes on older MD trucks. I've got a 73 F-600 dump that's the same way. The brakes are great, then after sitting over winter there's nothing, right to the floor. Bleeding the master cylinder down at the Hydroboost unit, one pump brings the whole system right back to life. No idea why.
We a Viking on the small family farm when I was a kid we hauled grain with. Wish I had it now, gotta love old iron. You got a wonderful looking one there glad to see you bring her alive!
Dear B. and A. Why don't you try to buy it from great Johnathan if you like it so much? Sometimes he sells cars. ;-) :-) Best regards, luck and health.
@@Chr.U.Cas1622 haha Yeah that's a good point you make! JW has to be the best person out there to buy old iron from. Once the pandemic settles and I have the money, I'd love to look at his collection. Right now, my spare money is going into remodeling my house. Once that's done I'll be able to buy toys. lol wishing you safety, luck, and health as well!
My wife’s the official brake pumper when I bleed brakes. Was going to get a fancy one man brake bleeding system, but they wouldn’t take my wife in trade, so, I’ll make do with what I’ve got....
Just like one of the trucks we had on the farm when I was a kid. We had a Chevy dualie and a Studebacker truck, both from long ago. I don't remember the years, but both were good trucks. I learned to drive at age 12 on the Studebaker. I drove a 1956 VW to school in the 70's, having fun at full service stations telling the gas jockey to be sure to check the coolant !
What a great old rig. Doesn't need much at all. Just a little TLC here and there. I've got a 235 in my 57 Two-Ten. It's a fantastic engine. Starts up better than any other old vehicle I own.
You gotta love those old Chevrolet heavy duty trucks. They maybe old work horses. But are very much capable of still doing the work a new truck can. Good score if I do say so myself.
@@farmerbill6855 Well dadgum, he did say that indeed. Firetrucks are red. Maybe we’re seeing red, rust and a white primer? Or just faded out red. I better pay better attention. 😁
Jonathan, back in the late 50s on the farm in Illinois, we had a 57 Chevy Grain Truck with that exact Grey metal interior, no radio, when you opened the ashtray i looked for a stick of gum. My Dad did not smoke so he would put sticks of gum in the ashtray. He also would wind a bit of bailing wire around the base the gear shift so he always had some in the truck if something needed fixing It had a 4 speed with the 1st gear we called Granny Grunt was to help launch a heavy load of grain from a dirt field. Once out on the hard road you would shift up as you head the elevator. We had stock racks we could fold up and and haul a free cattle or pigs. I drove that truck from the time i was 12 or 14 really young. Mostly fixing fix then later haul the grain. Yes 236 In LIne Six but it had the gears that allowed it to haul everything we needed. Early on Dad would let me hold the button to lift the dump when we went to the elevator. Later i did it all by myself. I miss those days and my Dad. Seeing this truck and you starting it brought back so many wonderful memories. Take Care, Dennis in Virginia
Hey Jonathan...Another great find..not in bad shape either.motor sounds good .it has all the glass too..new brakes .. granny low.. it's going to be a great hauler..thanks Jonathan.. Looking foward to the next video on this truck..Cheers 🍻🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
i am so glad i found your channel i have watched nearly every one and so relaxing to watch my father was in the auto salvage business and we built most of our wreckers would build the booms out of round tubing and then cut squares of plates and then run angle iron from the corners to build what was at one time the standard. really enjoyed the time i got to spend with him so much i see in you i saw in him please keep up the hard work you put in. we restored a old straight 8 buick twin carb. several old packards and if i remember correctly a V-16 cad one time
Nice truck Jonathan! Brings back good memories! I bet that guy is smilin down from heaven seeing that it’s good hands now! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
We hauled hay with a flat bed Chevy. Made me happy to hear it run. The patina on the paint is fantastic! please dont paint it! Wipe it with lindseed oil will keep it and have a nice look. Thanks for the video!
The engine whisperer has success again. This had the makings of a good truck...looking at it teminds me of bucking square bales of hay 1960, Creek County Ok for my grandpa
Jonathan's got (or had) quite a few unique vehicles in his possession...check out some of his videos from the last 3-4 years (if you haven't already). That's a guy I'd be proud to call neighbor.
Anybody else thinking how cool it would be to have Mustie1 pull up and give Jonathan a hand? I love both their channels.. its like being a kid again hanging out in the shop with my dad almost 70 years ago.
Great score Jonathan, my uncle had an old “60” model back in day for his monument and sandblasting biz. Always reliable never let him down. Thanks for sharing and doing what you want to do.
Nice! The best finds are old fire trucks as they were usually low miles but high hours as they sat running for hours fighting fires. Mostly well maintained as breakdowns were very undesirable. I would have snapped it up too! As always looking forward to your next video. Terry from South Carolina
I'd love to have that old truck. Brings back memories from my young days. But what I'd do with it.....no idea. But, wow, that thing's in great shape. Nice buy, I'd say.
I thought this was an old video, clicked it anyway as I need a dose of cool old start therapy about now, then I find out it's a new upload too... Bonus Nachos! Thanks for sharing JW.
Conservator has a new project,,,my parents had a 59 Impala with a 235 - 6 with a Powerglide when I was in grade school. Nice old truck 4 years younger than I am.
