The 550 A was the second generation of Porsche's first purpose-built racing cars. The aluminum body is combined with a tubular spaceframe structure. The engine is a unique, gear-driven four-camshaft flat-four. The pianist Ernst Vogel drove this car to victory in the 1958 Austrian Hill Climb Championship. Vogel also set several national and international speed records in this 550 A Spyder. The current owner discovered the bare frame along with boxes of parts in 1984. The restoration was completed over a 27-year period.
