This is the car that always comes to mind when thinking about the 50's and their idea of what the space age would look like. Very nice finish on it too, I imagine that's what it would look like back in the day. If I ever got one I'd paint it Aqua or Yellow though to make it that stereotypical over the top 50's car. :)
Hi Chuck • Like Wow • 100% Classic Cadillac. I like that Kris is going to do a cross country trip with the family. One more excellent Ride with Chuck. • Cheers from Michigan
Hi Chuck, this is an amazing car and owner ! I was 14 yrs old when these babies came out, hate to admit it, us kids would sometimes steal their tail lights to put on our bicycles .
Hello: Thanks Chuck !!! The paint on the roof was awesome. That man is a fast hard worker. Those cars are too big for me. I'll take a 67 SS Chevelle 396 with 425 H.P. 4 speed with poso rear. Now we are talking, I love to hear that engine idle. No I don't have one, you know I have rode in a few back in the day.
OP - I too just happened to buy a long sitting series 62 Cadillac from Texas. Mine has shot floor pans and some quarter panel rust but drive-train was in there. I am inspired by this video and restomod. I plan on keeping stock 390, with carb, but add alternator. I also plan on updating lighting and electronics, other than that mostly stock, though intrigued by the air-ride. parts are high though. I can see why most four doors were cut up for parts, but not 52336 it's going back on the road.
Looks like a nice tasteful mild custom. This gentleman does nice work. I'd like to see that 60 Olds that was parked next to it as well Thanks for the ride Chuck!
Great video Chuck! I especially admire you (Kris) for the part where you took a "shell" of a car from Texas, and imported it to Chicago, and over 11 months, converted it into what it is on this video. I see you remembered to "raise your ride" before leaving your driveway, but I think I heard a bottom out scrape at 3:40. Maybe you should have raised it a little more. Also, do you have some kind of warning light that reminds you to raise it when you first start it up? The reason I'm asking is I had a 1960 Cadillac four door flat top that would bottom out on hilly driveways. And that was with the original suspension. But even at 24 years old (this was back in '84), that car did not lean on turns. You say you are going to be driving this car every day, including in winter I presume. Are you going to "Z-bart" it to keep the bottom from getting Illinois rust? Or will you simply drive that rusted out truck (0:45, which I presume might be yours) instead on snowy days? I noticed also a black 1960 Pontiac in the video. Is that yours too?
caddy had a air ride in that year from g.m. it sucked when i worked for caddy i had to start all the air ride cars as they had the bumpers on the ground over night and so starting them pumped them up to normal height so they could sell them .. once sold they could then wartee the failed system and change them back to spring ride but the cars had to be sold first .....
A 1959 Cadillac (64, 63 or 62) is my dream car and hoping to have one by time in 16, I’m super super spoiled so a 62 or 63 is affordable (but not a 64, 300k is way to much. I’m gonna try to modernize it enough for daily drive, what would be the best way to do that especially because I will be a new driver?
What size wheel and tires are those? I'm purchasing a 68 Deville and looking to have it bagged. I was looking at getting some wire wheels and was going with a 235/75/15 but heard those maybe to tall if I want the car to lay on the ground. Any info would be appreciated.
Zachary Barker but we were. that's a fact. they were first to have a satellite in space. they, we're the first one send living creatures into space, they were the first to send a man up there. that's as far behind as one can get in a two country race!
Beautiful '59! But I wonder why the owner didnt replace or rechrome the trunk "lip" considering that its pretty stock looking except for the '57 caps, and the candy red...
Great car but lousy camera work. You spent the whole first half of the video staring at the owner, in his sunglasses. Pointless. You could have used all that time to show the details of the car and dubbed his voice over it. This car deserves a remake of this video.
Amazing how many people think their opionion is the "Gold Standard".....News Flash...ITS NOT! You didn't spend one dime on this rebuild a true car guy would respect the build regardless of its your "cup of tea" or not...my two cents!
cool car but please Keep it Original with original Motor and Trany!! They where Bulit like that and they are Old cars so dont Put any new shit in it! Back in 59 it was a Daily Driver too so Keep it how it is and just drive it! New Motor and Trany is a rape for this old beauty
Thanks for saving me a post. Air ride is for show, not for ride quality. It really ruins the suspension travel. Air bags have VERY LIMITED travel, thus a bouncy ride. He must have wear / skid plates underneath to bash into every uneven surface or parting lot entrance...what 1 or 2 inches of clearance at most?
Caddy had a stock air ride system, he just put a better one in it. The stock one had a lever on the dash you pulled out to raise the car up high, you pushed it in and it kept the car level.
i think because the original engine was gone in it. i think i would on have did what he did, but if everything was there then it would have been a bad idea
