Now a days we can appreciate the Edsel. The 59 is improved from the 58, Ford downsized the horse collar grille and made the tail lights better and fixed the transmission, all major improvements. I like Buzz's Edsel, that old car is better than a new car. Great video, thanks Lou.

The best part of the Edsel were the engine choices as the E475 410 cid engine was a step up from the 361.. What would have made a cool Muscle car would have been the 430 Super Marauder engine with 400 hp would have been the Hot Rod Eddy... Cool cars all around...

What a fun car! I thought the Citation was the top of the line Edsel, and the Corsair was the 2nd in line, but either way, awesome car to have! And it's obviously well loved and in mint condition. Back in the day it was considered kinda ugly by most folks, now it's a rare thing of beauty that brings smiles to peoples faces. It makes me happy just to know their still around and being taken care of. Also I personally think it'd probably look better with a white top, (So that it'd match the white strips on the sides.) except that'd probably get stained too easily.

Great camerawork Lou. Nice steady point of view from the passenger seat. Really got a feel for riding shotgun in the big bad 'E'. And just as you were saying it... I was thinking 'this is kinda relaxing, like I'm taking a nice ride through the scenery in an Edsel'. Real glad the roof stayed up. All we would have heard is wind noise... (along with you and the camera boppin' and bouncing all around checking for scenery?), lol. As for the car..... I've owned and been driven in plenty of old convertibles'. When the roof is up you hear EVERY noise squeak rattle and non-issue in the chassis. The good tight cars can sometimes be a little embarrassing but most of them are horrifying. This Edsel sounded as tight as a new Lexus. And the power train sounded better. Thanks for another great job on another great (and rare) car.

I confess, I was one of those that laughed out loud at these cars. But we mellow with age. It's not as bad as all that. I hate to say it, but that engine didn't sound good. It sounded like a cement mixer in dire need of grease to me. I remember my dad's '57 Mercury starting up and running, and compared to this one his was smooth and quiet. Oh well. Good job, Lou. Enjoyed seeing this car again!

The Citation model was built in 1958 only. Once Ford realized that Edsels were not selling they dropped the most expensive models including the Citation and Bermuda wagon (which is a thing of beauty!).

Man, Lou...That looks to me as though those might be leather seats. In an Edsel Corsair? I didn't think they would've even been offered. Is it true? Or are they just cleverly disguised rolls of black and red Ford corporate vinyl?

Hi steeldan dansteely, Well I check with Buz and he said they are not leather seats, and he's not aware of leather seats being offered in an Edsel. Lou

The 1959 model year Ford Motor Company had the best looking cars that model year. Ford Motor Company should have brought out the Edsel for the 1957 model year and should have did a better job of promoting it, had that would have happened the Edsel would have most likely sold a lot more cars & would have made it into the mid 1990's in production.

Thanks.A very beautiful car. I think the Edsel was a nice car with a pukie,ugly name.If the car was called Corsair,etc.,it would have had success. I rode in a Friend's Edsel in the 50's,and it was a very good looking,riding,performing car.Just my point of view.
@jeffmartin3179
@jeffmartin3179 7 лет назад
James I don't like the name either. It was chosen by the Ford brothers as a sort of memorial to their late father Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford. I was by all means a great car. They ran well, rode well. Dependable....but yes Edsel was an ugly name and plenty of people hated that grill. The 1960 was the prettiest but it was too late. Edsel was doomed before that.
@blackbirdpie217
@blackbirdpie217 7 лет назад
My first car was a '59 Ranger. I have a special affection for them, but there was definitely more bad news for the car than just the name. Firstly Ford lied about the car for nearly an entire year before it came out.. "different in every way" and the public knew it was just another 5,000 pound Ford, sucking a lemon. They said it was revolutionary, but the only thing new was the pushbutton transmission in 1958 only, because it didn't work. The assembly workers hated it because every few cars they made in the line was an Edsel and it threw all their assembly tools and methods off, they wanted more pay to put it together because it took more time, and they deliberately did poor work putting it together, they hated it. Right when it came out the economy was in recession, and people were looking for more economical cars, thus the Falcon took off like wildfire. The Edsel was nothing but a disappointment for everyone. the consumer, the investors, the dealers, the assembly workers, the investors and the Ford Motor Company.. The car was a complete loser for everyone. Mine was a four door with a 223 six and a two speed Ford-0 Matic, the absolute slowest car I've ever driven, it actually would not climb some hills, it was a COW. Even so, I would love to have another some day!
@jeffmartin3179
@jeffmartin3179 7 лет назад
What a shame. Hell the push button tranny wasn't new Chrysler products had them and so did Packard. Still like the car! I would def not want a car that big with a 6 in it.
@blackbirdpie217

The worst thing was the two speed auto. Lugging and over-revving were the two speeds. My uncle said the speeds were slow, and slower.
