Little did I know that when I was 8 in Delaware county and listening to this on New Year's that I would be listening to it again when I was 71 actually in Alabama in Mobile county. I'm so homesick
God bless you for all the uploaded videos you submit. I was 13 years old at this parade. I took 8MM movies at this parade but it was so cold, my camera froze solid. I can't stop the tears of joy every time I watch this video. I want to take my whole family back to Philadelphia in the hope the parade will be even close to what I remember as a kid. God bless you for posting these videos.
This was even before my time. I was born in 1962 and have been sharing with our daughter the older string band performances posted here. I told her that was the Mummers Parade I grew up on. Most of the clips were from the early 70s. Thanks for posting this one.
I was 16 of that year and remembered how our family planned every year to get in the car with much anticipation head down to broad street. My 2 brothers in law were in the Ferko Frederick Gardner he played bass, fiddle and bells (is in the hall of fame) and Ron Zdanowski he played drums. Later joined Avalon. My brother Frank Toth was in the Avalon played sax. Such a happy joyous time to grow up. Thank you for this great video of all time. If you know any of these fine gentlemen please give a yell😌
Thank you for posting this video of early Mummers Parade. I have never seen a Mummers parade since I live in Indiana but a good friend in Delaware has me hooked on the parades now.
I loved this soooo much as a child. I didn't know the Mummers came from Philadelphia marching in the Macy's Parade. I thought they magically floated down from the clouds using all their wonderful feathered costumes. I'm jealous (healthily so) of Philly, and wish it could adopt me so I could claim it and the Mummers Parade as my hometown. Thanks to everyone ever involved with the loveliness of it all.
I remember these parades on the DAVE GARROWAY TODAY SHOW - NBC - [Dave Garroway From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ] My Ferko 33rpm vinyl has been played hundreds of time since then -- This "video' is probably 8mm film -ala RU-vid - The Undamaged Zapruder Film - there were no practical ENG video cameras then and consumer color video was still 20 years down the road in 1960
I have nothing against drag shows, (saw my first over 60 years ago in SF) but this parade is not one! The Mummers are their own creation with their own glorious history.
