I bought his 1960 Chevy Impala 4 years ago. The license plate sticker says 1985, it's been sitting where parked almost 40 years. Let's rescue this old car and see if the engine is seized. How bad is it ? Will it run and drive again ?
I've got a 60 that I've had for many years. That should be a 235ci 6 cylinder. The distributor will move for the advance. Cool old car. I also see you have the blue glass. Very cool. Good luck with it. Paul
Close but not a 59 my fav. Can't wait to see it moving on its own. Tell the truth, do you ever sneak out late at night and drive a running vehicle up on the trailer, just to see what it feels like 😂😄
I traded a console stereo for one with a bent A arm. 348 4 barrel 3spd slush box, fenton DRAG Fast LINKAGE. what a monster. Red 2dr HT. white interior. The only time I was able to speed shift onto 2nd I won a tri power set up for it, summer of 71. Oh what a night it was, it really was such a night.
I drove a 60 to school in 63, it was white with the black and white checked seats. It had a V-8 and was an auto trans. I thought it was a 283 but the guys at the dealer kept telling me it was a 327? In a 60? We did buy it used though!
I bought the brother to that one in 1976 in Alabama. Mine had a white top 2dr 283 powerglide not a spec of rust on the old girl and ran like she was new.
I’m an old Ford guy but I always have loved the old Impalas. That will be a great car… especially if you and your son can work on it together. I’ve been driving a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback for 53 years and it’s been a pleasure!!! I wish you the best of luck in getting it back on the road!!! The Old Army Scout…
As a kid I remember sitting in the driver's seat of one of these. It was brand new. But never driving again. The car had been driven into a tree before it was a year old. My family had Ramblers, so that Impala was a rocket ship. A crashed rocket ship, but....
I had a 61 with the 283 2 speed trans when I was in high school, then when I went in the military my dad sold it behind my back , when I went home after basic and found out I was heart broken and mad as hell, to this day I have never been able to find another one
Cool old car brings back memories of my 67 Pontiac tempest custom sprint. originally had a ohc 6 cylinder engine which was replaced with as I recall but could be wrong a 292 Chevrolet engine 6 cylinder as well. It was a 3 speed on the floor with a hurst shifter I had swapped out the hood for a GTO hood becouse it look cool the car was black with white stripes across the bottom of the car and up front it said sprint between the stripes. It had some get up and go for a six cylinder. I swapped it for a 68 road runner later on.
Way back in mid-Sixties Southern California a neighbor owned a '60 Impala with a 348 tripower setup. I was working at a gas station and I'd bring him a set of used tires which he would oblige by burning them 'til they blew in the cul-de-sac.
You're proof that "you can't keep a gearhead down". I'll be looking forward to the end result, and maybe Josh will accept that a six cylinder can be good enough. Those wheels are at home on the Impala, and the rallyes will be great on the Corvair. It's good stuff.
1960 Impala. My dad had one. It's the car that I had my first ride in coming home from being born. Dad had the convertible. We called it the Batmobile. It's a dreamer!
This car is more rare than you think. Most ‘60 Chevys with the inline 6 cyl, only had two taillights on each side. I like the three on both sides, with the backup lite in between. I thought the Impala came with the three lenses white backup between two red on each side with the middle being the backup lite. The belair came with two the two red lenses together on each side. This showed GM made all combos for the customers back then. I will never understand why the factory put 6 cylinders in some convertibles back then.
Really good lookers, Love the wide vette style wheels on the back - scared about what they look like underneath - blue window tint on the package deal car is so cool
I think we might be somehow related. I am similar in age, have a fleet of old VW's (some of them less than pristine), have rally wheels on my Corvair, daily drivers are Toyotas, have an old Chevy truck, garage full of parts, and one of my favorite cars is a '60 Impala, black with red interior! I would even have chosen those same rims... Freaky...
I bought my old 63 Impala 2D HT in 98 or 99. Dragged it out of the bush for $500. The guy had pulled the whole front clip off and yanked the 283 out and left it on the ground. I think he owned it 15 years but the tags showed last registered in 74 or 76, so I don't think he ever drove it. My dad and I rented a U-Haul trailer, and on the way home we stopped for gas and a guy that passed us turned around to come ask us about it! Anyway, I scrubbed off the moss and tree sap by hand, tore it apart (interior, trim, etc) but then gave up and sold it. Wish I'd kept it so that my kids could enjoy it too. Have fun!
There’s like a 100generations of Mice 🐁 🐭🐁🐁That grown up in The Blcvk Pearl , Jack Sparrow think of all Shat Heritage in there , Really Clean they kept Her , she’s a Big Girl
whaaat a beauty! you lucky guy! I remember a friend of my dad's was driving a panel 2cheveux in quebec and a 60 impala side swiped him slicing through the whole side with the wing !!! LOL
Definitely the more classical looking of the 60s big Chevys for me. But I always laugh about that body style having the name "Sport" in it and the 6 banger engine being called "Thrift" of some kind or another. LOL. Different times I guess.

Nice to see you still on RU-vid and move it on to something other than Volkswagen and dirt bikes. They’re cool and all, but I think your skill set is being stifled by focusing on Volkswagens. Wish you the best keep up the good work. I also live in Massachusetts.
Dear 5150mxVW. 👍👌👏 Congratulations 🎉 for purchasing this absolutely great looking car. Personally I like this model much better than the over trimmed and over finned 1959 and the already more quadratic follower (1963 for instance). Hope that Waylon Wire doesn't read this! 🙈😁 By the way: You mentioned Hevyshevy. Do you watch his channel actually? 2) With what did you feed Josh? He definitely grew a lot since his last appearance. By the way: Hasn't he always liked to power wash the crusty cars? Hope you didn't forget to take out the mice infested headliner. 3) Happy to hear that everything goes well with moving your shop. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
