I am ready to get back to the MGA project so I pull it out of storage and try once again to get it driving. Today I install the master cylinder, new brake hoses, and finish the pedal assembly. Watch all the MGA videos here: • MG

I liked the smoke coming out of the socket when you removed the rear brake hose. Thanks!

The MGA is, in my opinion, the best looking of the roadsters.

I laughed at first with your concern about air leaking, because the side windows flap away, but, then I remembered it's important to keep your feet warm.

Excellent production. I will likely never own an MGA, but it’s a pleasure to watch a common sense approach to dealing with wrenching challenges.

Always wanted an MGA, but when I was looking they were either very expensive restored examples, or extremely rough ones. Amazing that there are still good solid barn finds waiting to be found!

Keep em coming steve, enjoy watching these repair videos, just remember all those metal break pipes usually broke off in the uk with our wet weather, pretty much had to replace the metal pipes too.

Hi Steve. Happy New Year to you. Good to see you working on the MGA. I have a Coupe. Cracking cars to drive. Your clutch pedal looked very wobbly when assembled. New bushes perhaps?. Regards, David. U.K.

Steve, you may have already done this BUT. Could you review or discuss 5 speed transmissions vs 4 speed with overdrive? Also it would be great to see you install either sometime. Thanks for all the hard work putting these together.

Can't wait to see this car on the road running properly. It would be good to follow the process of a complete restoration for a car like this.

find me a barn find MGA or B like that. Just had to let go of my 1978 B because clutch went out. Kind of wish I just fixed it. On the look for another MG vehicle though. Always. LOL. Like watching your episodes on the MG's

I recently read a recommendation in a classic car magazine to not use braided brake hoses in road applications. The reasoning is that you can't see the rubber underneath the metal sheathing, so it could degrade to the point of being dangerous without it being visible.
@mudmucks
@mudmucks 2 года назад
Eh, really? Millions of motorcyclists with braided hoses should be pretty worried then!
@Zeem4
@Zeem4 2 года назад
@@mudmucks Any braided brake hose means not knowing its underlying condition until it starts leaking or bursts. The only way around this is to replace them on a schedule - probably a lot easier on a motorbike than a car.

nice car and happy to see progress. Do you think that rust is just superficial? The rust under the backend visible while you're doing the lines, and the rust by the interior side of the pedal box.

There's a perverse logic in putting brand-new parts into a car which looks so utterly neglected, you want to scream out "FULL RESTORATION!!" but I get the process :)

I just don’t understand why you don’t throughly clean and degrease cars before working on them. So much easier and enjoyable working on cleaner vehicles.
@ThisWeekWithCars
@ThisWeekWithCars 2 года назад
I used to do that and people would say that I was lying about it being a barn find. So now I don't clean them until they are running and can move about on their own. This one should be cleaned (weather permitting) next time you see it.

@@ThisWeekWithCars Steve, I think you should do what works for you and ignore the detractors. That said, I agree with Joel that working on a clean car is much nicer. Thanks for the great vids, happy new year!

Hi Steve, when using the same aviation Goodridge hoses on my front brake (1960 MGA 1600), they were a bit shorter than originals and when turning the wheels fully left or right the front hoses were under tension. I had to order custom hoses a bit longer. Did you encounter the same problem ? Cheers.
@ThisWeekWithCars
@ThisWeekWithCars 2 года назад
No these are Cobalt brand. I remember running into that same problem with Goodridge hoses though.

Why do you not wash and clean the car before doing the installation. I can’t see anything good coming from rubbing dirt into the fender paint.

The rubber on the excluders though... I have to replace them every 2 - 3 years as they crack open where the part that covers the pedal meet the base.. Complain to Moss about it every time, but still happens.
@ThisWeekWithCars
@ThisWeekWithCars 2 года назад
Do you have it pushed down as close as you can to the pivot to limit the amount of travel it takes?
@s4usea
@s4usea 2 года назад
@@ThisWeekWithCars I do. Do drive it 3k+ a year, but still. It's something to do with the rubber their supplier uses as the same thing happens to the steering rack boots.

I wouldn’t put new parts on a rusty dirty car like that, you have to remove everything again when you start the renovation, just my opinion..

Absurdly inaccessible master cylinder fittings is a classic case of function following form, coupled with poor design.

Old British sports cars are known to be extremely reliable so there is no need to design components to be easily repairable.
