It was nice but my own. opinion l like them stock ( original ) when they were built in the Chrysler plant coming off the. assembly. line in 1959 ( old school) / have. a good day. Bill S. ( Canada)
Not sure you would. Can't just jump in and start driving these things, not designed for unleaded gas and it takes a few minutes to get it started and warmed up before it won't stall. Other than that they ride like dump trucks without a load in them and will beat you up if you're not in shape. There are others out there that are old body on new frame and running gear. I'd drive one of those any day. By the way, I have an original '66 K10 that's very similar to drive as this Power Wagon. Love the thing and drove it a lot, but a very poor daily driver.
no point in having a cummins unless you swap out the entire drivetrain. current gearset in the axles is likely 5.83 making top speed limited by two factors; engine RPM and tall gears. The cummins redlines @ 3200 rpm, the exact same as the original L head 218/230 straight 6. additionally, you don't need the extra torque the cummins would provide. this truck has plenty in it's stock form. the best solution for more speed would either be a gear swap to 4.86 (highway gears)if you can find them, an axle swap, or possibly a Ranger overdrive. None of which are cheap, with the Cummins 4BT averaging $4000 for a used engine (if you can find one in a wonderbread truck). at that rate you're really only paying to hear valves clatter, and realizing no appreciable gains in performance.
